Job Purpose

The Senior Network Administrator shall report to the ICT Manager. He or She shall be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the corporate LAN/WAN/VoIP network infrastructure to ensure network availability for efficient business operations. The job holder shall also be involved in the planning, designing, and optimising of all network connectivity on the corporate LAN and or cloud.

This position is also responsible for ensuring that all network nodes are protected from unauthorized access, and only authorized and legitimate users are granted access. The Senior Network Administrator shall also be responsible for providing level two support for any network related queries on the helpdesk system. Furthermore, this role is also responsible for data center, systems and other electronic infrastructure management and supervises the works of other officers.

Key Responsibilities

Key Functions/Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely identification, troubleshooting and resolution of all network related issues.
  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, and application layer firewalls.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, life cycle management and related documentation.
  • Ensure that all Local Area networks are up and running without breaching the agreed SLAs.
  • Establish and manage incidents elevated from Client services team through prioritized work queue
  • Ensure that network traffic is prioritized over non-operational traffic to maximize NHIMA operational efficiency.
  • Monitor timely ongoing performance and capability of systems and recommend upgrades or modifications according to the current utilization and future demands.
  • Effectively monitor all physical network connectivity for activity and thresholds, all connectivity through Internet infrastructure and Quality of Service (QOS) performance.
  • Monitor Utilization of IT network to ensure resources are evenly distributed for efficient business.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware against unauthorized access to prevent business interruptions.
  • Ensure that the IT network infrastructure is secure and protected from all Internet related vulnerabilities
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure control effectiveness of security infrastructure.
  • Maintain all network infrastructure issues related to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.
  • Design and implement short-term and long-term strategic plans to make certain that network capacity meet existing and future requirements.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Ensure that all critical network nodes in the organization are backed up on a periodic basis.
  • Effectively undertake the implementation of all network systems changes and related support.
  • Test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Prepare adhoc, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports showing network performance.
  • Ensure effective provisioning of logical security to all systems along with guidelines to identify, analyze and resolve ALL network security problems.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate with at least 5 credits which should include English and Mathematics: and
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information technology or Computer Engineering or related qualification.
  • 5 years’ relevant network administration experience in banking, insurance, or parastatal sectors
  • CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Security, CCNP & Microsoft Certifications added advantage
  • ITILv3 added advantage
  • •Member of Information and Communications Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ)/Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) with a valid Practicing Certificate
Competencies required for this Role
  • Expert understanding and hands-on experience with internal routing protocols and configuration, ISIS, OSPF, etc
  • Knowledge of BGP, MPLS configuration and management
  • Working knowledge of backbone and data centre networks
  • Understanding of transit relationships and Internet connectivity
  • Good level of knowledge about Data Centre Operation and Management procedures
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, access control lists, firewalls, VPN, NAT and network traffic analysis
