Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Limited, is one of the largest copper producers in Zambia. It operates mining and processing plants located in four districts namely Chingola, Chililabombwe, Kitwe and Nampundwe.
With an investment pledge of over $1 billion by Vedanta, KCM envisages to unlock key operations such as the Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) in Chililabombwe and increase production to 300,000 tonnes of copper per year by 2030.

To support this vision, KCM would like to recruit an experienced and qualified individual for the following positions in the Legal Department;
SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER – DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Job profile:
The incumbent will be required to manage the Litigation and Dispute Resolution portfolio of Konkola Copper Mines Plc so as to maintain the company’s integrity, mitigate risk, minimize financial exposure and maintain the efficiency of the Company.
Main roles & responsibilities:
- Handle disputes, resolve conflicts, and manage litigation or alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.
- Lead and manage dispute resolution processes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation to manage litigation and contentious matters.
- Coordinate with external Counsel on complex legal matters and manage the conduct of matters by external Attorneys-at-Law.
- Appear before Court, Tribunals and other Dispute Adjudication bodies.
- Advise senior management and stakeholders on dispute resolution strategies and legal risks on issues relating to the administration, interpretation and adherence of laws, statutory requirements and obligations relative to the Company’s operations.
- Advises on industrial relations and employee grievance matters.
- Represents the Company in the collective bargaining process and forms part of the related negotiations team.
- Adjudicates matters at a pre-litigation/ dispute resolution stage and negotiate amicable settlement, which can be more cost-effective and faster
- Reviews correspondence, identifies risks and develops and implements measures to mitigate against negative impacts to the Company.
- Manages the preparation, drafting, filing and service of documents.
- Prepare and manage cases for trial or arbitration, including evidence gathering and legal research on various aspects of the law.
- Assists with the preparation of monthly departmental reports, annual budgets and strategic business plans.
- Monitors and evaluates performance of subordinate staff through the enforcement of the Company’s Performance Management System, including conducting performance appraisals.
Requirements and skills
- Grade 12 School Certificate
- A Law Degree from a recognized institution with at least 5 years of experience with a flair for dispute resolution, litigation, or related attributes and with a proven track record in managing disputes and litigation processes.
- Must be an advocate in the High Court for Zambia and a paid-up member of the Law Association of Zambia.
- Must be familiar with specific dispute resolution practices e.g. arbitration, mining and extractive industry law, commercial disputes.
- Must have a deep understanding of contract or commercial law, and superior court procedure
- Strong ability to analyze legal issues, evidence, and case law to form effective strategies.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.

- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Interaction and liaison meetings with peers and superiors
- Interactions with external entities as and when required.
