Senior Engineer: Poultry Processing Plant

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineering Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team, ensuring adherence to industry best practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Refrigeration Systems Management: Oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of refrigeration systems within the plant, optimizing efficiency and reliability, ammonia plant experience essential.
  • Project Management: Lead engineering projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains, implementing innovative solutions to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that engineering systems and processes meet or exceed food safety and product quality standards.
  • Preventative Maintenance Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all critical equipment and systems, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Respond promptly to equipment failures and maintenance issues, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Affairs: Stay informed about relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing poultry processing operations, ensuring full compliance at all times.
  • Risk Management: Assess risks associated with engineering activities and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and mentorship to engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is essential for this role. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering roles within the poultry processing industry, with a focus on refrigeration systems.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration principles, including HVAC systems, cold storage, and freezing technologies.
  • Proven track record of successful project management, with the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards such as, HACCP, and OSHA.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
