This role is responsible for determining short- and long-range demand forecasts regarding CEC’s power sales, purchases, and wheeling to support business planning. It plays a key role in analyzing data on customer system usage and power consumption trends to inform management’s business decisions. The role also involves participating in and supporting the accurate and timely preparation of customer monthly invoices and other billing to ensure customers receive them within agreed timelines. Additionally, it requires active participation in company marketing and customer liaison activities to ensure that the needs of both existing and potential customers are met, and that all categories of customers fully understand CEC’s service offerings.

The position will report to the Senior Manager – Account Management.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop short and long-range demand forecasts in respect of CEC’s power sales, purchases and wheeling to support business planning, meet requirements under the ZESCO PSA and customers PSAs and any such similar requirements.
  • Play a key role in analysing data pertaining to customer use of the system and power consumption trends in order to inform business decisions by management.
  • Develop and maintain a database in respect of the of the following:
  1. Customer consumption data and patterns
  2. Supplier power data/patterns
  3. Power Wheeling data/patterns
  4. For specific customers, customer performance under a relevant connection agreement
  5. For use in deriving statistics, customer trending, general customer management and decision-making
  • Participate and support in the preparation of customer bills and other invoices accurately and timeously to ensure these are received by customers within agreed timescales and follow up, trend payments in liaison with other relevant departments.
  • Provide information/studies backup to power system network development engineers for new business opportunities as may be required.
  • Actively participate in company marketing/customer liaison activities to ensure requirements of both existing and potential customers are well taken care of and that CEC’s service offering is well understood by all customer categories.
  • Provide technical assistance on power system modelling and analysis to other departments such as System Operations, Renewables etc.
  • Demonstrate consistent behaviour in line with the company’s HSE and Risk Management policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Create and maintain a safe and secure work environment through proactive risk identification, reporting and management.
  • Demonstrate behaviour in line with CEC values, standards, and expectations of a professional workplace.
  • Participate as an effective team member in working collaboratively with leaders, peers, and relevant others (including from other teams) to achieve business goals.
  • Optimise human resources in way that ensures that maximum productivity is delivered by the section.
  • Prepare suitable reports in relation to all key accountability areas.
To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a reputable learning institution.
  • Relevant qualifications in energy management, statistics and /or power systems are an added advantage.
  • Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • 5 years’ experience in energy management, statistics, transmission and distribution, and operations/maintenance.
  • A solid understanding of the Zambian and SADC power system network.
  • Understanding of the SAPP Interconnected Power System.
  • Knowledge of Power system modelling.
  • Knowledge of electricity tariffs development.
  • Financial modelling skills.
  • Understanding of the Zambian Grid Code (Transmission and Distribution), Electricity Act, Energy policy.
