Job Title: Senior Chemist
About the Position
The Senior Chemist reports to the Laboratory Manager but has functional working relationships with the Sub Regional Operations Manager, Quality Control (QC) Chemist regarding Quality Control issues and Laboratory staff
Specific Responsibilities
Compliance:
- Practice the ALS Health and Safety Foundation Standards
- Practice the ALS company core values
- Abide by the ALS company policies and procedures
Duties:
- Ensure that timely and quality results are reported to clients through sound analytical analysis and correct QC interpretation
- Maintain established QC programs and ISO accreditation protocol
- Minimize the number of amended work orders due to error
- Ensure staff members have the training and skills to successfully complete the tasks assigned
- Checking and approving outgoing analytical data
- Ensure QPs, QWIs, SOPs or client specific procedures are followed
- Advise on inventory, consumable purchases and maintaining adequate stock levels
- Ensure all analytical instruments/equipment are properly maintained to minimize breakdowns and downtime
- Ensure efficient operation of all analytical instruments and all work is completed on time with a high degree of accuracy
- Maximize productivity and efficiency through improved work practices
- Train and build a technical team on all methods in practice
- Optimize turnaround time and ensure accurate, timely results are achieved and maintained
About you
The successful candidate would be:
- A tertiary qualification in Science, preferably in Chemistry
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- A strong customer focus and strong leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines
- Excellent English communication, reporting writing and presentations skills
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Internet Explorer
