Job Title: Senior Accountant (1 Year Contract)
Job level: PLAZ Grade 4
Reports to: Finance Operations Manager
Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Job Purpose and Scope:

Responsible for implementation of financial controls, compliance with statutory laws, liquidity, business planning, analytics, and risk management.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Financial Controls

Creating a culture of financial discipline by ensuring implementation of financial controls,
systems and processes for robust risk management

Monitoring and supervising the functions of budgetary control, forecasting, cost accounting
and financial analysis.

2. Compliance

Managing all taxation related matters of the company including issues of compliance and
tax benefits

Liaising with statutory and internal auditors and ensuring all relevant information is provided
to them. Making a checklist of identified issues and gaps and initiating corrective action.

Ensuring accurate and prescribed recording of all financial information on an ongoing basis,
at the same time ensuring adherence to legal requirements of company law and direct taxes

Ensuring that the company is complying with all corporate laws, tax laws and other relevant
laws Overseeing tax and other finance audits.

3. Treasury management

Manage the cashflow of the business to ensure compliance with liquidity policy, internal
SLA’s and turnaround time targets, while ensuring growth in the balance sheet, and efficient
use of cash.

4. People management

Undertaking performance reviews and feedback for direct subordinates Ensuring timely
information flows within and

Core Competences Required:

• A financial services background is essential (preferably working within a large banking
or insurance organisation)
• Understanding of current and emerging regulatory frameworks relevant to the insurance
industry
• Experience of treasury management and understanding of financial planning cycle •
Strong financial reporting skills
• Ability to work with limited supervision and make judgement calls within the
responsibilities of the role
• Possess influencing skills, use those skills to deliver work and secure agreement to
improve processes and practices
• Strong personal commitment
• Financial modelling and analysis skills

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

• Accounting/Finance Degree/CIMA /ACCA
• Applied experience in financial accounting
• Good knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS)
• Excellent IT skills and competent user of Sage Evolution (Pastel), Excel, Power Point and MS Office suite
• Ability to think clearly and assess matters quickly and to solve problems on short notice
• Ability to positively influence the team within Finance
