The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team and managing the daily operation of the business. As part of the general management of the lodge, the applicants will perform the following key functions to run the lodge successfully:

Guest Services:

  • Guest welcomes and hosting
  • Handle requests and complaints promptly and professionally
  • Coordinate water sports, guided nature walks and all activities

Operations:

  • Maintenance of buildings and boats
  • Housekeeping
  • Food & beverage management
  • Restaurant services
  • Stock control for all departments:
  1. monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and manage budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  2. Implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality
  • Implement and maintain health and safety standards to ensure the well-being of guests and staff
  • Procurement: manage all orders for lodge supplies including:
  1. Kitchen & Restaurant (food & kitchenware)
  2. Bar (beverages, wine, glassware and bar equipment)
  3. Maintenance supplies
  4. Boat equipment and spare parts
  5. Curio shop
  6. Furniture and décor
  7. General replacements
  8. Spa supplies
  9. Staff uniforms

Administration:

  • Bookings
  • Invoicing and payments
  • Reporting and analysing
  • Asset list management
  • Sales & Marketing

Staff Management & HR

  • Recruitment and contracts
  • Manage staff schedules: days off, sick-leave and annual leave
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Review and edit company policies and code of conduct
  • Foster a positive work environment and provide leadership and support to staff members
  • Staff development and training

Skillset: in addition to the general management of the lodge the GM must have strong interpersonal skills that enable them to engage with Travel Agents, Tour Operators and Guests.

The GM must also be a good communicator and be able to manage a demanding booking system.

IT skills are important to enable the GM to manage Spreadsheets, booking software and other IT based management systems.

Start date: the position is available immediately. Required latest September 2024.

The objective of the Lodge:

To be a first-class boutique Safari Lodge offering guest a special experience. Operations must be efficient and run to a high standard. The operations are to be carried out in line with the concession agreement with Parks and Wildlife and the guidelines set out by shareholders from time to time.
