to fill the position of:
Paediatrician / Neonatologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paediatrician/Neonatologist to join our Neonatal and Paediatrics Team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based care for infants, children, and adolescents while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The role involves delivering safe, compassionate, and effective paediatric and neonatal services across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and delivery room settings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide specialist paediatric and neonatal care to both inpatients and outpatients.
• Participate in the management of all neonatal and paediatric cases admitted to the hospital.
• Conduct daily ward rounds in the Neonatal Unit and review paediatric inpatients as required.
• Run Paediatric Clinics daily with ward reviews where necessary.
• Participate in an on-call rota for emergency paediatric and neonatal cases.
• Attend Caesarean section deliveries where there is risk of prematurity or neonatal compromise, and provide neonatal resuscitation when required.
• Diagnose, manage, and treat neonatal, paediatric, acute, chronic, and developmental conditions.
• Prescribe and administer appropriate treatment, medication, immunisations, and specialised medical interventions.
• Provide resuscitation and stabilisation of critically ill neonates, including premature and low birth weight infants.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, histories, investigations, and clinical documentation.
• Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and guardians regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures.
• Provide guidance on child health, including nutrition, hygiene, disease prevention, and developmental care.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
• Develop and implement care plans supporting the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of
  children and adolescents.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

• Fully qualified Medical Doctor with a recognised specialisation in Paediatrics and Neonatology.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience practising as a Specialist Paediatrician/Neonatologist, preferably in a
  tertiary or reputable hospital.
• Registered and licensed with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).
• Experience in neonatal intensive care and neonatal resuscitation is essential.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong clinical judgement and ability to manage emergencies under pressure.
• High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

ADDED ADVANTAGE

Experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Experience in a tertiary or teaching hospital environment.
