Job Summary

The role of Network Administrator is to ensure stable operation of the organization’s Zamtel’s Local Area Network (LAN). The Network Administrator is also responsible for the management of IT corporate network and all associated devices to ensure that fast, stable and secure connections are provided for Zamtel employees. This includes Installations, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the LAN. Find

Purpose of Job (Responsibilities) 

• Provides “ownership” of problems through final resolution.
• Availability of LAN including ensuring efficient and fast business operations
• To provide secure access to company network and preventing unauthorized access to the corporate network
• Well managed and documented network to ensure business continuity in case of staff replacements
• To report and update management on the status of the network and requirements
• To monitor network performance and bandwidth allocation to company operations for efficient network performance
• Network inventory management

Key Results Areas (Accountabilities)

• Firewall configuration closing un used ports
• Configure VPNs for all remote access to IT Network
• Configure and commission the threat management gateway software to filter all traffic from the IT network
• Configure and install Intrusion detection software/applications
• Intrusion prevention
• Network logging
• IT Network compliant with IT policy

Key Performance Indicators 

• Ensure 99.99% availability of LAN Core Nodes
• Ensure 100% of Network nodes have Capacity utilization of not over 80%.
• Network Capacity Management.
• Ensure 100% patch management of all Network Nodes
• Ensure 99% Successful backups of critical systems in the organization.
• Ensure 99% user accounts administration
• 99.9% Network availability to the following (Core network at IT Lamya house)
• Documented list of all assigned IP, static and DCHP pools for the entire IT network
• Ensure detailed technical report is submitted once (Weekly, Monthly, Daily)
• Weekly reports on: (Device availability, Bandwidth utilization reports, Quality of service reports, Traffic shaping, Link availability reports)

Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

• University degree in Computer Science or a combination of equivalent education and experience, 2-4 years technical working
• Certifications Required:CCNA/CCNP, Unix/Linux administration certification.
• Minimum 3 years practical experience in a TCP/IP based network environment using Cisco devices
• Principles of networking including router, switch and firewall configurations
• Network Routing and switching, VPN tunneling
• Network Security /Linux/Unix knowledge
• Understanding of ITIL and COBIT 5 practices.
