The Zambia Information & Communications Technology College (ZICT College) is a Government owned Technical and Business College registered under the Technical, Educational, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). The college is based in Ndola, and offers locally and internationally accredited professional and academic programmes, & a range of other products and services.
The College seeks to recruit dedicated and innovative professionals who are passionate about making a significant and positive contribution to the education sector in Zambia. 1. LECTURER, ICT – G4.2 Salary Grade, Permanent Contract (2 Positions)

Job Purpose: Responsible for teaching and research; and for the development and review of curricula, supervision and marking of assessments and examinations; project supervision, student guidance, consultancy and community services; and administrative duties that may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
2. Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a range of platforms.
3. Engaging industry, and collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base, leading to thoroughly equipped graduates.
4. Setting and grading assignments, tests, examinations, and research projects.
5. Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
6. Participating in the institution’s, innovation, consultancy, and business development strategies
7. Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
8. Mentoring and providing support to students and other colleagues.
9. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
10. Carry out administrative tasks related to the department, such as student admissions, induction programmes and involvement in committees and boards

Qualifications, knowledge and experience required for this role

1. Full Grade 12 Certificate with at least 5 ‘O’ levels including English and Mathematics
2. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Information Technology
3. Master of Science in Computer Science/Information Technology
4. An earned PhD will be an added advantage
5. Evidence of peer reviewed publications will be an added advantage
6. Specialisation or professional certification in Cyber Security or Software Engineering will be an added advantage
7. At least two (2) years’ experience in lecturing IT related courses

2. NETWORKS AND APPLICATIONS MANAGER – G3 Salary Grade, 3 Year renewable Contract (1 Position)

Job purpose: To initiate and manage software development from conception to production and/or commercialisation in line with business objectives. This role is also responsible for overseeing the planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of secured data and voice campus networks, systems, databases, and applications for staff, students and other customers use.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

1. To manage the initiation, analysis, development, testing and implementation of new software solutions for in-house or external clients’ use using standard project management tools.
2. To develop and implement appropriate systems, policies, processes and procedures to help standardise the development and commercialisation of software solutions
3. To set attainable goals to the software development team to ensure projects are delivered within time, quality and budget in line with business objectives
4. To constantly liaise with the other departments to determine requirements for new software solutions for the business
5. To provide guidance to team members to encourage work productivity; and manage multiple software development projects at the same time
6. To put in place appropriate Intellectual Property policies that would ensure all software developed by the College remains the property of the College.
Networks
7. To manage the initiation, planning, design, deployment, configuration, monitoring and maintenance of systems, networks, database and applications to support the College business.
8. To review the existing or develop and implement new appropriate systems, policies, processes and procedures to help standardise the planning, design, deployment, monitoring and maintenance of systems, networks, database and applications
9. To manage the optimisation of all networks in order to attain resilience, capacity and efficiency in the utilisation of network resources
10. To manage the planning, design, deployment, monitoring and maintenance of network security subsystems and elements in order to secure the College Campus network resources against both external and internal illegal access
11. To ensure the availability of adequate network and applications resources at all times to support the College business.
12. To ensure availability of adequate ICT resources and tools for the use of staff, students and other customers at all times.

Other Duties

13. To submit timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Director – Smart Centre as agreed
14. To manage other ICT projects that maybe approved by Management within agreed time, budget and quality standards.
15. To manage various processes associated with suppliers and vendors to the ICE, including procurement processes, contract execution, SLA’s, supplied equipment and work approvals, certificate of completion of works, facilitating payments etc.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience required for this role

1. Grade twelve certificate with at least 5 ‘O’ levels at credit or better
2. Bachelor Degree in degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering/Information Technology or a related field
3. Post graduate Degree in relevant field will be an added advantage
4. Additional professional qualification in software development or IT project management certification, e.g. Agile, DevOps, Prince2, Prince2 Agile etc. will be an added advantage
5. Membership of ICTAZ
6. At least five (5) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should be as a senior engineer or project manager responsible for multiple successful software development projects.
7. Proven prior hands-on working experience in a software development environment; and should be conversant with various modern programming languages, tools, and techniques.
8. Working experience with various software development frameworks such as Agile, DevOps etc.

3. SOFTWARE ENGINEER – G6 Salary Grade, Permanent Contract (1 Position)

Job purpose: Creating and maintaining in-house software; and helps to develop critical software products for our clients, performs systems analysis on new or proposed software, and perform levels 2 & 3 technical support to Service Desk.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement new software programs
2. Maintain and improve the performance of existing software
3. Test and maintain software products to ensure strong functionality and optimization
4. Design and update software database
5. Recommend improvements to existing software programs as necessary
6. Deploying software tools, processes and metrics
7. Developing quality assurance procedures
8. Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs
9. Working closely with other developers, technical support colleagues, business and systems analysts
10. Clearly and regularly communicate with supervisors
11. Training users
12. Perform all other duties as required by superiors
13. Providing level 2 & 3 technical support to the service desk

Qualifications, knowledge and experience required for this role
  • Full Grade Twelve Certificate with at least 5 credits or better
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT/Software Engineering/Computer applications
  • One (1) year experience in a programming environment
  • Membership with the Information and Communication Technologies Association of Zambia (ICTAZ)
Special aptitudes, disposition and personal qualities of ideal candidate
  • Knowledge and interest in computer systems and the latest technologies
  • Must be able to transition into a full-stack developer but with core competences in Linux, Database design, manipulation, and query, back-end technologies (Java, C#, C++) and front-end design (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL)
  • Working knowledge of Laravel Framework
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to communicate complex procedures to other colleagues in a clear and simple way
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial, with good commercial and business awareness
  • An analytical mind; with attention to detail and desire to probe further into data
  • A team player who is highly reliable, adaptable, flexible and driven by enthusiasm; with the ability to maintain calm under pressure
4. INNOVATION AND RESEARCH OFFICER – G6 Salary Grade, Permanent Contract (1 Position)

Purpose: Contribute to the coordination of innovation and research projects and activities undertaken by the research and Innovation Center; and to the implementation of research activities conducted through the Academic Departments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist in the development and implementation of the innovation and research agenda in line with the strategic focus of the college
2. Identify opportunities for action research that the college can participate in and present these to the Innovation & research Coordinator
3. Lead in conceptualising, designing and implementing rapid assessments on current and relevant research topics
4. Identify knowledge gaps within college projects as well as sector specific gaps and suggest how these can be filled within action research.
5. Participate in conceptualizing, designing and implementing action research projects in the college
6. Assess research findings for the need/scope for further investigations
7. Prepare informed and standard research papers with guidance from the Innovation & Research Coordinator
8. Attend project meetings as required and support researchers in maintaining continuity of service.
9. Provide project support to academic staff engaging in Research and/or Innovation activities
10. Provide specialist advice on ethics issues relating to research and innovation projects.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience required for this role
  • Full Grade Twelve Certificate with at least 5 credits or better
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications degree or similar fields
  • At least two (2) year work experience in a similar role
  • Clear understanding of research processes and methodologies;
  • Experience in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data

  • Good level of analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both orally and through the written reports

5. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN – G7 Salary Grade, Short term Contract (1 Position)

Job Purpose: Provide technical support during and after laboratory Sessions; maintenance and storage of laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Plan, prepare and set up laboratory and e-Classrooms equipment in consultation with lecturers and/or faculty coordinators
2. Provide on-site technical support to the lecturers, students and other users during laboratory sessions and/or meetings/workshops/seminars in e-Classrooms
3. Carry out preventive maintenance works on all laboratory and e-Classrooms equipment
4. Participate in the induction of new students and staff regarding use of ICT services to the College
5. Work closely with IT Support staff in the maintenance of network infrastructure based at the ICE
6. Implementation of various ICT related projects
7. Perform all other duties as maybe required by superiors from time to time.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience required for this role
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with at least 5 ‘O’ levels including English and Mathematics
  • Diploma in Computer Science/IT/ Electronics/Telecommunications
  • One-year experience working in a similar capacity
Special aptitudes, disposition and personal qualities of ideal candidate
  • Knowledge and interest in computer systems and keeping abreast with the latest technologies
  • Understands and has working knowledge of operating all equipment found in the labs and e-Classrooms
  • Knowledge and interest in computer systems and keeping abreast with the latest technologies
  • Ability to demonstrate tasks and instruct students
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and their applications
  • Ability to trouble shoot and resolve ICT network problems
  • Ability to perform tests on systems and equipment to ensure that every component of the lab or e-Classroom is in good working order before actual session.
  • Have some programming and database skills.
  • Ability to perform 1st level ICT helpdesk support duties to students and staff
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to communicate complex procedures to students and staff in a clear and simple way
  • An analytical mind; with attention to detail and desire to probe further into data
  • A team player who is highly reliable, adaptable, flexible and driven by enthusiasm; with the ability to maintain calm under pressure
