Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following
positions in the School of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Zambia:
1. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER: ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE – 1
POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Plant Science or related field;
  • Master of Science in Horticulture or Agronomy with research experience in Flower
    and Ornamental Horticulture;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university
    level;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

2. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER – LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND
ARCHITECTURE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Plant Science or related field;
  • Master of Science in Horticulture or Agronomy with research experience in
    Landscape Design and Architecture;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university
    level;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

3. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER – CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT
AGRICULTURE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Plant Science or related field;
  • Master of Science in Agronomy or Horticulture with research experience in
    Controlled Environment Agriculture;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university
    level;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

4. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER – AGRONOMY, SPICE AND HERB
PRODUCTION – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Plant Science or related field;
  • Master of Science in Agronomy or Horticulture with research experience in
    Controlled Environment Agriculture;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university
    level;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

5. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER – FOOD SYSTEMS – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Plant Science or related field;
  • Master of Science in Plant Science, with research experience in Food Systems;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college or university
    level;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

6. JOB TITLE: LECTURER/RESEARCHER (ANIMAL SCIENCE) – ANATOMY AND
PHYSIOLOGY- 2 POSITIONS
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Animal Science or related field;
  • Master’s degree in either Animal sciences or Veterinary Sciences with
    specialization in either anatomy and Physiology, reproductive Physiology, or
    other related fields
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college, university,
    level or research institution;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

7. JOB TITLE: LECTURER, ANIMAL NUTRITION – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Animal Science or related field;
  • Master’s degree in Animal sciences with a specialization in Animal Nutrition or
    related field.
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college, university or
    Research institution;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

8. JOB TITLE: LECTURER, AQUACULTURE – 2 POSITIONS
PURPOSE: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Animal Science/Aquaculture or related field;
  • Master’s degree in Aquaculture or other related fields;
  • PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at a college, university or
    Research institution;
  • Must have proof of some publications in peer reviewed journals; and
  • Must be computer literate.

9. JOB TITLE: SCIENTIST, SOIL SCIENCE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting the Chief Scientist in the provision of technical
support to the department and carrying out experiments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans;
  • Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work
    manuals and procedures and related documentation;
  • Assisting the Chief Scientist in supervision of technical staff and allocation of
    tasks;
  • Planning, demonstrating and supervising all laboratory experiments in the
    stated Courses;
  • Setting up apparatus for experiments, teaching and research;
  • Analysing experiment samples or specimen for students and from clients within
    and outside the University community;
  • Producing of laboratory manuals and report books;
  • Ensuring that equipment and chemicals are placed in appropriate locations to
    avoid accidents

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Sciences; Agronomy;
    Soil Science; Chemistry
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience; and
  • Computer literate would be an added advantage.

10. JOB TITLE: SCIENTIST, PLANT SCIENCE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting the Chief Scientist in the provision of technical
support to the Department and carrying out experiments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans;
  • Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of work
    manuals and procedures and related documentation;
  • Planning, demonstrating and supervising all laboratory experiments in the
    stated Courses;
  • Assisting the Chief Scientist in supervision of technical staff and allocation of
    tasks;
  • Supervising technical staff in laboratory techniques and operation of
    instruments;
  • Setting up apparatus for experiments, teaching and research;
  • Analyzing experiments, samples or specimen from clients;
  • Producing laboratory manuals and report books;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Science Plant Science, Crop Science or any related field
    from any recognized University;
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience; and
  • Computer literate would be an added advantage.

11. JOB TITLE: TECHNOLOGIST, SOIL SCIENCE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting the Chief Scientist in the provision of technical
support to the department and carrying out experiments
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting the Chief Scientist in supervision of technical staff and allocation
    of tasks;
  • Supervising technical staff in laboratory techniques and operation of
    instruments;
  • Setting up apparatus for experiments, teaching and research;
  • Analysing experiment samples or specimen for students and from clients within
    and outside the University community;
  • Producing of laboratory manuals and report books;
  • Ensuring that equipment and chemicals are placed in appropriate locations to
    avoid accidents; and
  • Providing First Aid to accident victims and keep a record of accidents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Diploma in Laboratory Sciences; and
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience; and
  • Computer literate would be an added advantage.

12. JOB TITLE: FIELD TECHNICIAN, SOIL SCIENCE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting the Chief Scientist in the provision of technical
support to the department and carrying out experiments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting the Chief Scientist in the supervision of the Plotmen, students and
    Laboratory Cleaners;
  • Analysing experiment samples for students and from clients within and outside
    the University community;
  • Ensuring that equipment and chemicals are placed in appropriate locations to
    avoid accidents in his/her laboratory section;
  • Following written guidelines to ensure safety as outlined in the Safety manual
    written by the Chief Technician;
  • Cleaning of laboratory and laboratory apparatus
  • Assist in setting up of apparatus for experiments, teaching and research.
  • Prepare chemical reagents, and set up the laboratory for students
  • Participate in academic field and research trips
  • Assist in the production of laboratory manuals or report books

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Minimum of Certificate in Agricultural Sciences or Laboratory Technology;
  • At least one (1) year relevant experience in a science laboratory; and
  • Computer literate would be an added advantage.

13. JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN, PLANT SCIENCE – 1 POSITION
PURPOSE: Responsible for supporting the daily operations of laboratory facilities and
ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans;
  • Participating in the formulation and review of policies;
  • Supervising laboratory assistants and students in laboratory techniques and
    operation of instruments;
  • Setting up apparatus for experiments, teaching and research;
  • Analysing experiments, samples or specimen for clients;
  • Assisting in the production of laboratory manuals and report books
  • Assisting in the collection and preparation of teaching aids;
  • Maintaining an updated inventory of all laboratory equipment and requisites;
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards; and
  • Assisting in the Provision of First Aid to accident victims.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent;
  • Advanced Technician Certificate or Certificate in General Agriculture; and
  • At least two (2) years relevant work experience

14. JOB TITLE: PLOT MAN, PLANT SCIENCE – 4 POSITIONS
PURPOSE: Responsible for cultivating and preparing land for various field activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planting, weeding and applying of soil nutrients such as fertilizer;
  • Assisting students in preparation of plots and tendering of plants;
  • Harvesting of plants and pasture for students’ Practicals and animals;
    Applying soil nutrients, herbicides and insecticides in the fields;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 9 Certificate; and
  • At least one (1) year working experience in handling farm activities.

15. JOB TITLE: ANIMAL ATTENDANT, ANIMAL SCIENCE – 4 POSITIONS
PURPOSE: Responsible the well-being, care and safety of animals within the university’s
research facilities or animal care units and maintain a clean and safe environment for
animals and support research and teaching activities..
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mixing feed for animals and birds
  • Feeding and watering animals and birds;
  • Handling and moving animals safely;
  • Assisting in administering medicines to animals;
  • Assisting Technicians in maintenance of accurate records of production,
    disease control and animal feeding, as well as maintaining inventory of records
    of livestock, supplies, and equipment
  • Cleaning cages, pens, trays, equipment and fittings;
  • Herding cattle and goats and milk dairy cows;
  • Detecting heat in dairy herd and piggery;
  • Burning of animal carcasses in designated areas
  • Offloading feed and other inputs.
  • Spraying of cattle, goats and pigs
  • Assisting research and teaching staff as well as students in data collection

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent; and
  • At least one (1) year working experience in attending to animals .
