Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (ChWSSC), is the utility Company based in Northern and Muchinga Provinces of Zambia providing water and sanitation services to 12 districts. As a Company, we are the implementing agency of the National Vision with regard to water and sanitation in the urban towns of the two Provinces.

The Company now invite applications from suitably qualified Zambians to fill the following vacancies:

1.  DISTRICT MANAGER (x3)

Job Purpose:

To plan, coordinate and manage operations at the District level. The position involves the provision of quality water and sanitation services, commercial services and improve customer relations so as to contribute to financial viability and service delivery of the Commercial utility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to do the following duties:

  • Plans the daily, weekly and monthly production schedules to ensure supply of quality water and sanitation services
  • Ensures adequate water and sanitation service delivery to customers as per service level guarantee.
  • Plans, monitors and controls district operations and water production against set targets.
  • Ensures that maintenance and repairs are carried on all plant machinery and Network according to maintenance schedules in order to minimize interruptions on operations.
  • Prepares and monitors the District budgets so as to operate within approved parameters.
  • Ensures correct metering, billing and revenue collection as planned pre-set targets.
  • Supervises, trains, coaches and disciplines subordinates.
  • Enhances business in the district by maintaining collection efficiency above 100%.
  • Maintains good industrial relations with the workers, customers and stakeholders.
  • To represent the Company in all stakeholder fora at district level.
  • To Prepare and submit required district reports on time.
  • Performs any other duties, in line with the job, as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Civil, Mechanic, Chemical, Electronics/Electronical Engineering field or a Business-related degree with practical experience in an engineering industry or Company.
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience.
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) or Field of Qualification.
  • Registered with the Engineering Regulatory Board (EngRB).
  • In possession of a Clean Driver’s license.
Other Attributes
  • Must be self-motivated, analytical and fluent in English languages both written and oral.
  • Applicants must be willing to work in any District where the ChWSSC operates.
  • Must be computer literate, including internet but proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Auto-Card.

2.  CUSTOMER SERVICES OFFICER (x3)

Job Purpose:

To contribute to the financial viability of the Company by strict maintenance of the billing cycle and bill distribution and revenue collection from GRZ accounts, maintenance of DDACC accounts and customer complaint resolution.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interprets and implements the commercial policy
  • Open and maintain customer accounts by recording account information
  • Resolve product or service problems by clarifying the customer’s complaint; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; following up to ensure resolution
  • Maintain financial accounts by processing customer adjustments
  • Recommend revenue collection methods to management by collecting customer information and analysing customer needs
  • Prepare reports by collecting and analysing customer information
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Undertakes Revenue Collection from GRZ and Commercial institutions through physical visitations
  • Investigate and resolve customer queries, referred from districts.
  • Prepare and submit accounts to be handled to Bailiffs.
  • Prepare identified accounts that qualify for debt write off.
  • Prepare a monthly commercial report, as per standardized format.
  • Cancel or upgrade accounts
 Qualifications and Experience
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent with passes in English and Mathematics
  • Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Accountancy or any business-related discipline where time to qualify is up to 3 years.
  • Minimum relevant work experience of 4 years.
  • Must be Reliable, Honest, integrity keeper, Computer literate and able to Numerate.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft package
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters
  • Proven customer support experience

3. PLANT OPERATORS (x5)

Job Purpose:

To operate and monitor the operations and performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the pump stations and water treatment plants in order to ensure adequate and quality water and service delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for proper operation of the Water Treatment Plant or Intake Plant
  • To maintain a consistent supply of high-quality water to the water distribution system
  • Inspects and ensures the proper operation of Treatment Plant equipment (Pumps, Valves, Sensors, Control Panels, Chemical Dosing System and related equipment).
  • Makes decisions on chemical feed rates and plant process operations to treat a varying water quality and flow rate as required by the water system demand.
  • Operates and maintains pumping stations and other related facilities.
  • Performs standardized laboratory tests for treatment plant process control (alkalinity, turbidity, chlorine residual, PH, etc.).
  • Cleans, lubricates, adjusts, operates, and assists in repairing water pumps, motors, chemical feed, and related equipment.
  • Reads and records measurements of meters, gauges, and recording charts.
  • Registers daily water quantities pumped.
  • Collects a variety of water samples for laboratory analysis, process control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Operates and monitors clear well for total production, chlorine residual, and draw down measurements.
  • Initiates and oversees filter backwashes.
  • Handles and transports chemicals in a safe and proper manner.
  • Responsible for the performance of work in a safe and proper manner of an assigned shift; may train new employees in proper and safe work methods and WTP operations.
  • Performs a variety of general maintenance duties (e.g. painting, cleaning, and grounds keeping) at the Water Treatment Plant and related facilities.
  • Conducts public tours of the WTP for public relations and educational purposes.
    Performs complex mathematical calculations to determine plant process requirements and efficiencies.
    Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12(Form v) School Certificate.
  • Craft certificate in Water Supply and Operations.
  • Diploma in Water Supply and Operations will be added advantage
  • Member of EIZ
  • Work experience of a minimum of 2 Years.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Self-disciplined
  • Ability to work in solitary conditions for long hours
