1. HEAD – CORPORATE AFFAIRS

Job Purpose: To manage the University’s stakeholder landscape in a manner that will promote and drive value from various key stakeholders’ relationships and engagements

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Head – Business Services will report to the Director – Corporate and Commercial Affairs .
The main duties will entail the following:

  • To develop and implement a communications strategy that will keep key stakeholders informed of important developments in and around the university through various media platforms.
  • To develop and disseminate corporate messaging to create a positive image and build a strong reputation and brand with consistent messages.
  • To issue publications on developments in the university that will provide.
    pertinent information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • To manage the University’s social media platforms and drive conversations on social media to create positive image and reputation.
  • To develop and implement strategies aimed at growing and managing alumni effectively.
  • To develop and implement strategies that will increase the level of support and contribution of the alumni to the University’s development activities.
  • To promote and implement strategies aimed at enhancing collaborations with industry and commerce.
  • To promote university industry linkages that will bring both students and faculty closer to the industry.
  • To promote business partnerships with industry and commerce aimed at linking them to various business projects and innovations in the university.
  • To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate by the Director.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent. Master’s degree is an advantage
  • At least three (3) years post qualification professional experience in leading community affairs, communications, public relations, promotion or marketing efforts in a management capacity.

2. HEAD – BUSINESS SERVICES

Job purpose: To develop and implement university commercial businesses and transactions to contribute to the financial growth of the University

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Head – Business Services will report to the Director- – Corporate and Commercial Affairs and the duties will entail the following:
  • To identify business opportunities for investment by the University
  • To develop and nurture business start-ups, research outputs, innovations and
    inventions to support the growth of university commercial businesses.
  • To plan, monitor and evaluate the University’s business activities and ensure the greatest return on investment
  • To commercialize businesses, research outputs and innovations through business start-ups or licensing and patenting technologies to industry.
  • To assist business units with business services such as preparation of business, operational & financial reports, plans and budgets.
  • To oversee the implementation of the Business Incubation Centre activities
  • Promote and increase opportunities for students, faculty, schools and units to engage in entrepreneurship activities
  • To identify and coordinate commercial research, consultancies and training of the University .
  • To work with business project coordinators to nurture and add value to University start-up businesses
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) “O” level Credits or it’s equivalent including Mathematics and English
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent. A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least three(3) years post qualification professional experience

3. HEAD – MARKETING
Job purpose: To manage the promotion and positioning of the University and its brands in a manner that will promote and drive the sales of programmes, products, and services from the University

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Head – Marketing will report to the Director – Commercial and Corporate Affairs and will be responsible for the following:
  • To promote and market the University and its brands
  • To formulate and implement marketing plans and campaigns to attract students, customers, alumni and resource mobilization support.
  • To develop and implement a branding strategy for the university
  • To supervise and manage the designing and branding of the various branded items
  • To oversee the creative development of promotional materials, website and digital content, advertisements, and other marketing-related publications and projects to ensure that branding is consistent across the board.
  • To manage and refine the University’s social media presence
  • To conduct market research studies and analyses market trends, demographics, pricing schedules, competitor products, and other relevant information to form marketing strategies
  • To drive the sales of programmes, products and services to potential students and customers
  • To supervise the day-to-day activities of the marketing team
  • To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate by the Director
Qualifications and Experience
  •  Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) “O” level Credits or it’s equivalent including Mathematics and English
  • A Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years post qualification professional experience

4. DIGITAL MARKETING OFFICER

Job purpose: The Digital Marketing Officer will assist in the planning, execution and optimization of the University’s online marketing and communication efforts across all digital platforms.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Digital Marketing Officer will report to the Head – Digital Marketing and will be responsible for the following:

  • To assist in the formulation of strategies to build a lasting digital connection with students, customers and other key stakeholders
  • To plan, implement and monitor the University digital marketing and communications campaigns across all digital networks.
  • To create and manage content for the website to drive traffic to University’s pages and generate interest in the University’s programmes, products and services.
  • To design, build, and manage the ongoing University presence on social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.) and watch what is being posted about the university online.
  • To launch optimized online adverts to increase University and brand awareness
  • To be actively involved in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts (keyword, image optimization etc) to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to the University’s website
  • To prepare online newsletters and promotional emails and organize their distribution through various channels
  • To provide creative ideas for content marketing, communication and website updates
  • Acquire insight into online marketing trends and keep strategies up-to-date
  • To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head – Marketing and Sales
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) “O” level Credits or it’s equivalent including Mathematics and English
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years post qualification professional experience
Required Attributes and Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of various social media platforms, best practices, and website analytics.
  • Experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media, and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is required.
  • Highly creative with excellent analytical abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in digital marketing.

5. ASSISTANT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Job Purpose: To provide technical and administrative support to the Directorate of Commercial and Corporate Affairs in a manner that will help the University maintain its image, gain publicity and disseminate information to various stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The duties will entail, the following:

  • To identify opportunities in the media and at events to help raise the profile of the Copperbelt university
  • To support the production of media documentaries, publications, press releases, public statements, articles and website content
  • To assist in planning, organizing and setting up of media arrangements for public events hosted by the university
  • To assist in developing content and direct creative execution to provide consistent, targeted and impactful corporate messaging.
  • Working with the communications and marketing units to deliver strong, dynamic and cutting edge communication about the University’s activities, programs and projects.
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database and records of media coverage
  • To ensure university initiatives, developments and projects are successfully communicated to employees and other internal stakeholders
  • To assist to drive conversations on various media platforms both internally and externally
  • To undertake any other duties that may be assigned by the Head – Communications (Corporate Affairs) or the Communications officer.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Diploma in Communications, Public relations, Journalism, or related field. Bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage
  • At least three (3) years post qualification professional experience

6. BRAND MARKETING OFFICER

Job Purpose: To develop and execute marketing programs that increase brand identity and brand awareness in order to shape the University’s outward image.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To maintain brand integrity across all University marketing and communications initiatives
  • To analyze brand positioning and uncover student / customer insights to deliver innovative marketing campaigns
  • To translate brand elements into plans and go-to-market strategies
  • To supervise advertising, product designs, events and other forms of marketing to ensure branding is consistent across campaigns
  • To coordinate activities of specialists involved in the brand positioning of the University including identified brand ambassadors.
  • To assist in aligning the University around the brand’s direction, choices and tactics
  • To implement marketing designs and activities to establish and maintain brand presence in the market
  • To supervise the branding of items to be stocked in the CBU souvenir shop
  • To analyze the success of marketing campaigns and create reports
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Head – Marketing and sales
Qualifications and skills
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business administration or other related field

7. ENTERPRISE OFFICER

Job Purpose: To facilitate the commercialization of knowledge, skills and expertise resource in the University into financial gain.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To identify and coordinate consultancies within schools and units
  • Coordinate the provision of short intensive courses to businesses and industry
  • To identify and facilitate areas of applied and collaborative research with Industry and commerce
  • To work with technology management Officer to advance research outputs into commercial enterprises
  • To assist in building cases for investment, project incubation and enterprise development for research outputs
  • Determine mode of revenue generation for research output i.e. license fees, earned income or other revenue licensing agreements
  • Identify companies, entrepreneurs or investors to partner with the University to create start-up companies or to license the research output
  • Research commercial contract negotiation and management
  • Monitoring performance of the spin-offs or commercial licenses
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head – Business Services
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Degree in Business Administration, Accountancy, Marketing, Project Management or any other relevant business qualification. A Master’s Degree in any related field will be an added advantage

8. INDUSTRY LINKAGES OFFICER

Job Purpose: To assist the University foster strong linkages and collaborations that will bring the University, students and faculty closer to the industry and commerce

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Link the University to industry and commerce for mutual benefit
  • Assist in the establishment of partnerships with local and international organizations.
  • Arrange opportunities in industry for practical experience for students and externship for academic staff and also staff from the industry;
  • Manage and assist various employment opportunities for the University graduates and develop database for Job Placement and monitoring of graduates.
  • Arrange opportunities for industry to engage with schools and academic directorates for curriculum reviews and delivery of expert lectures
  • Support the commercialization of startups graduated from the business incubation center;
  • Facilitate business partnerships with industry that would link business projects and innovations in the university.
  • Facilitate for joint or industry-sponsored adaptive researches and training directed to the needs of the industry;
  • Coordinate seminars and workshops for University-Industry relationships.
  • Manage the stakeholder engagement of the private, governmental and/or non-governmental organizations and industries, which have concern and relation with the University.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head-Corporate Affairs.
Qualifications and Experience

9. BUSINESS INCUBATION CENTRE OFFICER

Job Purpose: To manage the operations, planning, marketing and development of the business / technology incubators in a manner that will support entrepreneurs from idea generation to product development to commercialization

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overall planning of the activities, resources, budgets and operations of the Incubation Centre
  • Screening of proposals, research, patent landscaping and working with entrepreneurs for their proposals, presenting proposals to the next level for selecting incubates.
  • Provide incubation facilities, tools, space and networks to enable commercialization of the business
  • Assist in writing business plans, keep track of the Incubation process; help the incubates prepare proposals for getting funding,
  • Coordinate with various support systems including established entrepreneurs, science labs, workshops, workspaces and mentorship programs to make the Incubated ventures successful.
  • Forge partnerships with organizations for providing services to the incubates or the incubator i.e. marketing the incubator, sponsorship etc. Liaison with the government and industries.
  • Support the commercialization of startups graduated from the incubation center and be the face of the Incubator and actively promote it through various channels etc.
  • Co-ordination with senior management for setting up seed funds for start-ups.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain a comprehensive set of records on all tenant activity, client activity and staff involvement in the process of tenant recruitment.
  • Cultivate innovation culture through organizing innovation consultative meetings, workshops, events or webinars with industry partners in its innovation hub;
  • Carry out innovation competitions and host tenants into the its Business Incubation Center
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • A degree in Business Administration or a related field is required; a Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years of business development or business counseling experience is required.
Required Attributes and Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, knowledge of business management principles,
    budget formulation and financial management, property management and leasing, and computer literacy.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituents and organizations. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

10. TECHNOLOGY LICENCING OFFICER

Job Purpose: To manage patents, licenses, Intellectual Property (IP) and knowledge/technology transfer of the university inventions, innovations and research outputs in order to help researchers and inventors to commercialize their innovations by developing start-ups or licensing their technologies to industry

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identifying, evaluating, and licensing technologies discovered by researchers at the university.
  • Protecting commercial developments of inventions and creations,
  • Determining patentability of research outputs
  • Processing and safeguarding the relevant Intellectual Property agreements,
  • Undertaking patent search and completing applications for patents
  • Negotiating and managing licenses.
  • Facilitate intellectual property (IP) right services for legal protection of tenants’ patent right in the incubation centre;
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the university to proactively enable technology transfer and advancement of the university’s innovation and commercialization ecosystem
  • Working with the Enterprise Officer to identify technologies with commercial application, evaluate the commercial potential of technologies, and identify potential licensees.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the development of policies and oversee the implementation of intellectual property rights.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head-Business Services
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA)
  • At least three (3) years post qualification professional experience
Required Attributes and Skills
  • Knowledge of patents, intellectual property, trademarks registrations and protections mandatory
  • Thorough understanding of various research and start up commercialization processes
  • Excellent written and communication skills
