Purpose of role

• To provide high quality clinical care to patients of Beit CURE Hospital.

Key skill requirements / competencies

Clinical Responsibilities

• To provide quality medical care under the supervision and direction of the Consultant
• Contribute to quality patient care by participation in case planning which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, in-hospital care and discharge planning
• To attend ward rounds and conduct day to day review of patients
• Removal and application of casts and splints
• Removal of surgical pins
• Wound care management for outpatient and inpatient units
• Perform minor surgical procedures (excision, steroid injection, incision and drainage, etc.) under supervision of attending surgeon
• Assisting major surgical procedures with specific tasks (suturing, dissection, graft harvesting, etc.) as deemed appropriate by surgeon.
• Participation in ward rounds and completion of documentation as appropriate
• Evaluation of patients in clinic under supervision of attending surgeon
• Coordination of patients undergoing multidisciplinary evaluation.
• Pre- and postoperative assessment and order entry.
• Completion of discharge paperwork and planning.
To ensure comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records are maintained for patients with an appropriate signed and dated legible entry in the patient’s medical record on every attendance upon a patient. The Medical Officer should also print his/her name under the signature
• Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient.
• To arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge as directed by the Consultant to which assigned
• Inform admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken.
• Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant medical staff and nursing staff, these may include giving of intravenous drugs to patients.
• To provide assistance with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant to which assigned
• To be completely familiar with emergency equipment and procedures
• Maintain appropriate professional certifications including Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• To ensure that discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit
• Maintain good communications with all areas and disciplines within the health service and with local medical facilities to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the hospital
• Participate in clinical audit and quality programs as appropriate
• Serves as an employee health physician for Beit Cure Hospital employees who require first aid for work related injuries or who may become ill while on duty and require on site medical attention
• Serves periodically as a general medical officer for Children’s Ward, as needed based on rotation schedule
• Utilizes housing on Beit Cure Hospital campus at fair market rental rate so as to be in close proximity to the hospital facilities to facilitate prompt response for patient and staff needs
• To be “on-call” or participate in shift rosters
Administrative Responsibilities
• Manage the administrative requirements of the hospital and patient care including ensuring discharge summaries and medico-legal correspondence are completed with minimal delay
• Be aware of and adhere to all Beit Cure hospital policies and procedures
Educational Responsibilities
• To participate in clinical meetings that are undertaken by the clinical unit where stationed
• Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary
