MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – REPORT DIRECT TO THE PROJECTS AND MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

In pursuit of its business strategies in Zambia, the company invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position mentioned below, to join its team at ORYX Oil Zambia Ltd, based on the Copperbelt and Lusaka.

Job Purpose:

To oversee and lead maintenance procedures and actions at Oryx Oil/Gas Zambia Limited in collaboration with the Group. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the engineering and projects section of the Oryx Energies Affiliate.

Principal Activities:
  • Specific dedication to the maintenance of Ndola Depot, B2B and B2C Northern Region of Zambia
  • Responsible for reporting all maintenance problems and the status of the main assets in the organization
  • Responsible to understand and control the works done by contractors
  • Responsible to report and evaluate the performance of the different contractor
  • Responsible to execute the official maintenance plan implemented for each asset
  • Responsible for the execution of the assigned works by the maintenance coordinator
  • Responsible to do the follow up of the ongoing maintenance works
  • Responsible to use the maintenance reporting tool as a backup of the maintenance coordinator
  • Responsible to organize the maintenance works as a backup of the maintenance coordinator
  • Responsible for the housekeeping and care of maintenance tools
  • Responsible to ensure the necessary stock of spares and consumables
  • Responsible to train operations and maintenance in the proper use and house-keeping of the different equipment´s
  • Responsible to ensure that all works done with internal resources or outsourced are execute with the work permit and following the corporate instructions
Additional Accountabilities
  • Regularly inspect the facilities to identify potential issues and report accordingly
  • Execute the corrective and preventive work orders that are not outsourced
  • Control the executions of works of the different subcontractors on site
  • Ensure all maintenance works are done with quality and according to the standard of ORYX
  • Ensure all maintenance works are done with safety and works permits are issued according
  • Efficiently coordinate the activities of the different subcontractors on site
  • Back up of the maintenance coordinator

Know-how and experience required:
  • 3 to 5 years experience in middle management position, with acceptable experience in the Oil and Gas field and experience in maintenance of generators, diesel engines, air compressors, dispensers, pumps, electricity, etc.
  • Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Engineering/Diploma or equivalent, a Degree will be an added advantage
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively across different staff levels (verbal, non-verbal, written)
  • Technical training (to be complemented by the HSSEQ Department): electro-mechanical
  • Analytical person, curious and with energy and motivation to learn
  • Demonstrate knowledge in electricity, hydraulics, mechanical, pneumatics and automation.
  • Ability to train and coach for development of operational competencies as needed
  • Ability to analyze complex information, synthesize and make proposals
  • Must be sensitive to HSSEQ related matters and understanding customer needs;
  • Ability to manage projects and conflicting priorities;
  • Planning, organizing and time management skills to effectively establish the priority and scheduling of work tasks and projects to ensure work priorities are completed on time and within budget;
  • Results oriented
  • Fluent in English
  • Flexibility and ability to work and travel extensively, in the Region and abroad as needed (must have a driver’s license)
