Chilanga Cement is looking to recruit dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and qualified individuals to take up the following roles;

Position: Mechanical Artisans

Number Required: Four (4)

Reports To: Mechanical Supervisor

Location/Department: Maintenance, Chilanga Plant

MAIN ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to plant equipment in order to ensure equipment is available, reliable and safe to operate utilizing at least three of the following skills: rigging, fitting, machining, welding/cutting, lubrication and/or operation of a major piece of plant equipment.
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance on plant equipment as per maintenance scheduling and using job plans.
  • Repair mechanical equipment on breakdown.
  • Does mechanical repairs at any time of the day when called upon by superiors.
  • Reports through breakdown reports to superiors on cause of breakdown remedy done and spares used.
  • Ensure good and correct use of tools.
  • Ensure place of work is left clean after repair/maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out pre-planned/preventive maintenance work involving dismantling machines, cleaning parts for clear visibility of tear and wear. Replacing worn out and broken parts, re-greasing/re-lubricating and rebuilding it in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Test-runs completed work to ascertain quality of repair and safe running of machinery concerned.
  • Initiate orders for required materials/spares by compiling a list for superior’s action.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Supervise Apprentices as required.
  • Be able to do basic trying of equipment and tools.
  • Provide daily feedback and reports to Supervisors on progress and work completed against schedule and reason for variance, recording delays and recommending action to eliminate future delays.
  • Report Plant running in a dangerous condition to ensure Safety to personnel.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in Plant Safety Programs. 

EDUCATION BACK GROUND AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Artisan Fitter Crafts Certificate.
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience in a process industry.
  • Grade 12 Certificate   

TECHNICAL SKILLS   

  • Knowledge of work and safety rules and regulations
  • Sound mechanical knowledge (rigging, welding/cutting, machining, fitting, lubrication, operation of major equipment)
  • Knowledge of procedures for the repair and maintenance of plant equipment (Equipment may have the following attributes: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic)
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules and programs on plant equipment
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of relevant software
  • Knowledge of records keeping on plant equipment
