Maintenance Engineer


Role purpose

  • Perform plant asset maintenance jobs in line with BAYER procedures and best practices and thereby assure safety of equipment and people.
  • In liaison with the Plant Engineer, perform plant maintenance and reliability tasks safely, timely and cost effectively and thereby delivering at least 95% plant availability rate annually.
  • The Maintenance Engineer will work closely with other key staff on site to improve production facilities and reduce the incidence of costly breakdowns.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Responsible Foster safety culture in plant.
  • In liaison with the Plant Engineer, develop preventive maintenance tools for the site.
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities as prescribed by the Equipment OEM and BAYER asset reliability protocols.
  • Provide Technical and Organizational co-ordination and control of Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation repairs and service activities at the plant/site in line with plans developed by Plant Engineer in accordance with Bayer best practices.
  • Have specialist knowledge of:
  • Corn seed processing technology
  • Mechanical equipment maintenance
  • Maintenance planning
  • Reliability engineering
  • Complex faultfinding
  • Strong team leader skills, to ensure multiple activities are executed accurately, to Bayer high standards and in time
  • Timeous completion of allocated tasks

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree in BEng Mechanical Engineering/ BEng Industrial Engineering
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Minimum of 3 years hands – on experience in a production facility
  • Strong condition monitoring experience.
  • Experience with CMMS
  • Strong organizational and planning ability
  • Strong teamwork (flexibility to work with cross functional teams and positively influencing others)
  • Good Problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills and report writing
