J&J Transport Zambia Limited is recruiting suitably qualified individuals with a minimum of three years’ work experience that will assume responsibility for J&J Zambia’s legal and compliance matters and support other departments on any legal, compliance and/or legislative matters.

Reports to: Legal & Compliance Manager
Job Responsibilities
• Liaise with the management team regarding action on all the legal and compliance aspects of the business.
• Provide legal assistance to other companies in the Group and partners when necessary.
• Assist in the management of accident cases and liaise with accident reconstruction experts, Police Departments, Insurance Companies, State attorneys, Courts of Law and external lawyers to ensure the company’s interests are protected.
• Receive Group standardized policies and procedures across the board and where necessary draft and implement policies and procedures to meet business, HSES and legal requirements in Zambia.
• Aid the HR department in Disciplinary Processes, Ill Health and Disability Cases with the relevant legal institutions.
• Work with the Legal and Compliance Manager to conduct regular and ad hoc risk assessments and HSES audits by developing and maintaining risk registers and corrective action plans; implement and monitor these efficiently and successfully.
• Assist drivers at accident sites and ensure that the company and driver’s interests remain protected and that all legal procedures are followed whilst the client’s cargo remains protected.
• Assist in providing vigorous legal representation in debt collection matters and provide a positive reporting to senior management and creditors involved.
• Assist in monitoring legal and operational processes on internal systems such as freight management systems and ensure that processes are complied with.
• Ensure company ethical standards are met in line with company policies.
• Assist in liaising with management and third parties regarding all the legal and compliance aspects of the business, which are inclusive of ensuring that all insurance policies are reviewed in a timely manner and all assets in the company register are fully covered.
• Assist in drafting and implementing policies and procedures to meet business and legal requirements in Zambia.
• Ensure the compliance with relevant legislation; including laws relating with customs, cargo requirements, HR requirements and Internal Policies are met.
• Assist and advise on legal compliance and/or risks and ensure all licenses, permits and insurance policies, whenever required.
• Assist to conduct relevant employee talks on position with regards to transportation law in Zambia as a mechanism of sensitizing employees and management on the various rights available to the company and its employees.
• Assist and conduct all court processes (Litigation) for both in-house matters as well as liaise with external lawyers in the representation of the company and its interest arising there from, whenever necessary.
• Assist in providing in-house legal counsel and research with regards to aspects in employment law and advisement of labour matters in support to the HR department,
• Assist in ensuring that the environmental laws and permits are complied with and are renewed in line with Zambia environmental laws.
• Assist in ensuring that ALL legal requirements for the transportation and storage of dangerous goods are met and complied with.
• Assist in liaising with insurance brokers and manage the insurance portfolio risk and insurance claims.
• Assist in contract review and attending to contract drafting of both standard contracts and specialized contracts, whilst ensuring best practice is adhered to.
• Assist in the collaboration with Health Safety Environment and Security department and ensure that meetings are held as per statutory minimum.
• Assist in ensuring that all company risks portfolio are insured in line with company policy.
Minimum Requirements
• Degree in law (LLB)
• A member of the Law Association of Zambia.
• An Advocate of the High Court of Zambia with at least (3) years post admission and a bias in Transport Law, Environmental Law and or International Business Law.
• Age (minimum): 27 years.
• Thorough knowledge of Zambian Environment, Transport and Insurance Law.
• Litigation experience is preferred.
• Good understanding of business and business operational needs.
• Time availability (whenever needed to cover emergencies, including travel).
• Driving License preferred with driving experience.
