In line with our aim to effectively contribute to sustainable economic growth through the promotion, development, training and regulation of the Zambian Construction Industry, we are seeking a dynamic and motivated staff to fill the following position:
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN GRADE NCC 5
Reporting directly to the Materials Specialist, the job holder will undertake a variety of tests on construction materials in order to establish their suitability for use in various construction activities and sites in the construction industry
Main Duties
- Visit construction sites, road, quarries and building sites to collect samples such as soil, asphalt, aggregate, concrete, masonry and steel in readiness for testing
- Label received and collected materials and stores them in drying bays and store rooms or appropriate location
- Prepare soil, asphalt, bitumen and concrete samples for testing
- Carry out tests of construction materials in accordance with appropriate standards codified in the laboratory manual
- Prepare timely laboratory reports detailing the work undertaken by recording the results of the tests in the appropriate forms
- Clean the testing equipment and laboratory immediately after the test in order to maintain clean surroundings and avoid contamination;
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Grade 12 School Certificate
- Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology
- Member of EIZ
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
Required Competencies and Personal Attributes:
- Knowledge of construction materials
- Demonstrable materials testing skills
- Knowledge and skill in the standards (ASTM, BS, ISO etc)
- Knowledge of computer applications (Excel and Word processing)
