Laboratory Assistant

In line with our aim to effectively contribute to sustainable economic growth through the promotion, development, training and regulation of the Zambian Construction Industry, we are seeking a dynamic and motivated staff to fill the following position:

LABORATORY ASSISTANT GRADE NCC 6

Reporting directly to the Materials and Research Specialist, the job holder will collect and undertake a variety of tests on construction materials in order to establish their suitability for use in various construction activities and sites in the construction industry.

Main Duties

• Collect samples such as soil, asphalt, aggregate, concrete, masonry and steel from various construction sites in readiness for testing, labeling and storage in drying bays and store rooms
• Prepare soil, asphalt, bitumen and concrete samples for testing
• Carries out tests of construction materials in accordance with appropriate standards codified in the laboratory manual
• Clean the testing equipment and laboratory immediately after the test in order to maintain clean surroundings and avoid contamination;
• And any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Grade 12 School Certificate
• Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology or its equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience

Required Competencies and Personal Attributes:

• Knowledge of construction materials
•  Demonstrable materials testing skills
• Knowledge and skill in the standards (ASTM, BS, ISO etc)
• Knowledge of computer applications (Excel and Word processing)
