Program summary:

Avencion has created a Health Leadership Clinical Field Epidemiology Program dedicated to empowering Zambia’s young doctors who have interest in developing expertise in global public health sector.   This CDC, USAID, and PEPFAR-funded Clinical Field Epidemiology Leadership Program will fund six- to eleven-month internships for approximately 100 young doctors over the life of the program. Applicants selected for internships must successfully complete a 5-day pre-internship training.  Upon completion, participants will be placed at headquarters, provincial or district health office, health facility or in community – and will be eligible for a monthly stipend. The monthly stipend is intended to defray costs associated with transportation to and from the workplace and participation in required health leadership training and activities.

Field Clinical Leaders are required to work five days per week and must attend a Saturday leadership, management, communication, and technology skills training activity two times per month.  The Field Clinical Leaders will work closely and receive mentorship from medical doctors and clinical officers leading infectious disease programs at national, provincial, district and health facility and community levels.

Future leaders will be placed, based on need, education, interest and background; into Field Clinical Leader positions across various segments of the health sector such as community HIV/TB response, facility-level data utilization, health promotion, cervical cancer, last-mile community based clinical services, improvement in patient-centered care, digital virtual health interventions, strategic information, health management information systems, strategic planning, general management, monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, health statistics, health promotion social media & digital communication, and private sector engagement.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Graduate or doctorate degree in medicine (medical doctors).
  • Interested in global health, community health, mentorship, data utilization, data analysis, health system management, health technology, or health virtual interventions.
  • Desire to be a leader; accountability, passion, good character, integrity, ability to deliver tasks with minimal supervisions, organizing skills, team player and willingness to learn and adapt.
