The Program Health Support Specialist Will

Serve as a SME to National Office leadership in developing country health strategies Interpret and contextualize the global physical development outcomes and indicators for Compassions Holistic Child and Youth Development program Maintain subject matter expertise on healthy physical development, theory and practice Support in mobilizing health related resources and networks for effective health programming and Support the preparedness and response to country level Public Health emergencies.

This specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation and regular review/revision of:

National Office’s Health components to their annual CIV Strategy National Office’s Health Curriculum/Materials Health Progress Measures for all ages) Relevant Targeted Response interventions Other health-related program content/elements as assigned by the Manager of Program Support.

This role will also understand the health funding needs of all beneficiary ages and support mobilizing resources (both Compassion and non-Compassion) to meet those needs. He/She will coordinate and provide oversight to support health related interventions, collaborating with the associated Partnership Facilitator(s), Complimentary Intervention Specialists, or other relevant Program Specialists (e.g., Survival Specialists), and the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to ensure implementation quality & effectiveness, as well as monitoring & evaluation and learning.

The role of Program Health Support Specialist will be to provide subject matter expertise regarding the health of all program beneficiaries (pregnancy (Survival) through youth). This role will collaborate with other Support Specialists, Program Trainers and Partnership Facilitators to ensure staff and Implementing Church Partners are adequately informed and equipped to ensure preventative and curative care for all beneficiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Champions and implements overall holistic child development and provides ongoing subject matter expertise in individual area(s) of specialization. Collaborates with cross-functional staff and managers at all levels by providing coaching and knowledge within area of specialty. Provides child development community learning and improvement among staff and other stakeholders. Equips and networks with communities of practice in areas of expertise to champion the holistic development of children transformation in their communities. May also champion and administer special initiatives. Stays current in field of expertise including industry standards, national policies and best practices.
  • Regularly assesses changing need for and ability to deliver programming within area of expertise. Consolidates national and local data to identify common gaps and patterns. Develops strategy; maintains and supports the implementation of strategy within area of expertise. Regularly provides advice in support of other strategy development with the national office.
  • Provides skilled program design subject matter expertise to other staff. Furthers the ongoing development and implementation of local program design in alignment with the global objectives. Regularly provides expertise to other national office professionals, support staff and FCP staff/volunteers to ensure that Frontline Church Partners are adequately informed and equipped to provide holistic development to caregivers, children and youth.
  • May facilitate the development and implementation of resource components for specific ministry strategies and plans in support of Partnership Facilitator and other cross-functional efforts. May develop proposals and guides requirement gathering and prioritization process to garner and deploy resources to partners. Consolidates and identifies common patterns and needs from various initiatives and strategies.
  • Designs and coordinates implementation of specific holistic child development strategies and interventions. Partners with partnership facilitators to provide capacity-building and child/youth/caregiver engagement activities in area of expertise. Regularly contextualizes portions of curriculum relevant to their expertise or other resources for child and youth development. Works with partnership facilitators by ensuring intervention records, reports, and other documentation are accurate, complete and delivered to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Reviews data, analyzes, and develops reports to support management and key stakeholders in improving program initiatives, interventions and child outcomes. Provides consulting to drive learning and innovation at various levels to improve programming for beneficiaries and FCPs.
  • May coach and provide expertise to other program support staff in the national office.

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Health (Nursing or Medicine), Community or Public Health-related degree (having a Master’s Degree in Public Health/Community Health would be an added advantage).

Skills & Competencies

  • An understanding of the national health care system.
  • An understanding of the health and developmental milestones.
  • Ability to understand the church and its context, be open to continuous learning, reflection, and improvement of the support provided to the church.
  • Ability to review/analyse health data, reach conclusions and provide clear decisions/recommendations on health strategies.
  • Ability to think programmatically and make appropriate recommendations/decisions on a national health strategy.
  • Ability to effectively train non-medical personnel in basic health topics and assist lay leadership adapt best practices to the local context.
  • Ability to collaborate well both internally & externally.
  • Ability to network and build partnerships with other ministries, government agencies & organizations for resource mobilization
  • Ability to represent Compassion on a professional level
  • Ability to communicate (verbal & written) in a clear and effective manner
  • Seven years Relevant experience working in this or a related field.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from a nationally or internationally recognized organization in a related field.
  • Equivalent education, training and/or certification may be substituted for experience and education shown above
