Access Bank Zambia is looking for suitably qualified, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Head – Credit Risk Management.

Job Title: Head-Credit Risk Management

Location: Head Office,  Lusaka

Department: Credit Risk Management

JOB PURPOSE

To co-ordinate, implement and oversee lending programmes, framework and policy guidelines for the in-country bank, manage the day-to-day operations and administration thereof and maintain a robust control environment in order to maximize portfolio profitability and minimize the bank’s risk exposure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with Chief Risk Officer (CRO), co-ordinate and implement lending programmes, framework, and policy guidelines in-country.
  • Coordinate and implement group lending programs, frameworks, and policy guidelines in-country.
  • Develop and influence policies to ensure compliance with local regulations and internal compliance requirements.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and key risk indicators (KRIs), advising the Board, EXCO, and Group Risk of trends and performance, and recommend actions to mitigate risks.
  • Oversee annual facility reviews to assess risk profiles of various banking segments (Corporate & Investment, Emerging Business, Public Sector, etc.) and ensure credit levels do not exceed predefined limits.
  • Oversee the performance of the in-country credit team, ensuring expectations are met, and identify training and development opportunities to address performance gaps.
  • Engage with the Central Bank and other regulators to ensure compliance, and respond to regulatory assessments, findings, and queries, maintaining proactive communication.
  • Manage debt recovery strategy on non-performing loans (in collaboration with Legal Department), monitor external agencies’ performance and take remedial action where necessary.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Expert knowledge of credit fundamentals and lending.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit administration, credit analysis and restructuring.
  • Experience in holding a personal credit mandate would be an added advantage.
  • Sound financial modelling and forecasting skills. Relevant finance, business and economics knowledge.
  • Visionary application of regulatory and legal framework guiding the lending of money.
  • Knowledge of emerging markets (advantageous).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Relevant business degree; post-graduate qualification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

10+ years’ relevant credit risk experience, preferably in the commercial banking sector, with at least 2 years senior leadership experience
