Job description:
The Mine Geologist plays a pivotal role in overseeing pit ore control within the Mining Technical Services Department. Responsibilities include; identifying geological formations, making critical ore-related decisions, and providing geology-related services to support mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate proactively within the Mine Production Geology team to ensure safe geological operations and equipment usage.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of quality ore to the processing plant.
  • Conduct geological mapping of the pit in conjunction with grade control drilling data.
  • Provide accurate grade control models to optimize mine planning.
  • Supervise ore mark outs and selective digging to minimize dilution and contamination.
  • Collaborate with Mine Planning Engineers to ensure quality ore feed to the processing plant, including stockpile drilling and sampling management.
  • Conduct ongoing reconciliations to assess performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor geological technicians, Ore Controllers, miners and drillers in geology relevant to their roles.
  • Contribute to achieving budgetary and performance targets of the MTS team.
  • Promote innovative solutions and continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Undertake any additional roles assigned by the Senior Geologist / MTS Managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Bachelor’s degree plus Honours in Geology, Mining Geology or equivalent

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Production Geology, or equivalent in Exploration/Operations

Operational Requirements

  • Valid Zambian drivers’ license – Held for more than 12months
  • Comfortable with exposure to dust, heat, noise, and chemicals.
  • Understanding of and ability to conduct and report on Industrial Hygiene requirements.
  • Proficient in technical software such as Surpac, Datamine, or Mapinfo/Leap Frog 3D.
  • Familiarity with LIMS systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Detail-oriented with a knack for problem-solving.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment with a methodical approach to tasks.
