Zambart is a research-focused non-governmental organisation that conducts research on HIV and Tuberculosis to help control and mitigate the impact of the dual epidemic. Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication and counselling.

Shista Study Summary

The Shista study will evaluate the performance of genital self-sampling, compared to healthcare provider sampling obtained for the detection of Schistosoma haematobium (Sh). The study aims to develop a holistic approach for the community-based diagnosis of female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) through a comprehensive package for sexual and reproductive health screening including human papillomavirus (HPV), sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV across endemicity settings (from high to low transmission) in Zambia.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for candidates to fill the following positions:

1. Field Supervisor – Shista Study in Chongwe (1), Kafue (1), Livingstone (1)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure sites have commodities such as self-sampling swabs, HIV self-test kits etc
  • Account for all commodities such as self-sampling swabs, HIV self-test kits etc
  • Ensure that the Stock control register is updated regularly
  • Ensure that commodities are kept securely
  • Supervise Field workers and ensure clients are referred to and followed up at the local clinic for further sample collection
  • Provide guidance and support to field workers
  • Monitor and ensure that the Shista Study information is given correctly to the participants
  • Ensure that informed consent forms are kept securely
  • Ensure that tablets are kept safe and charged for the next day’s activities
  • Ensure tablets have updated data and all questionnaires are uploaded to the server
  • Partake in the screening and enrollment of study Participants
  • Administer questionnaire to eligible participants
  • Filling and completing study documents
  • Daily handing of specimens and other study documents
  • Performing other duties as required by the Study Manager

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of a grade twelve (12) certificate
  • Knowledge about research is needed
  • Computer literate
  • Must be a resident of the local area and be familiar with the community
  • Be trained and licensed in Psycho-social Counselling with a minimum 2 years working as a counsellor
  • Be able to speak, read and write English and be conversant with local languages
  • Must be willing to walk and cover long distances
  • Previous experience as a home-based career, treatment support worker or community health worker is beneficial
  • Previous experience in leading a team in the field is an added advantage

2. Field Worker – Shista Study in Chongwe (3), Kafue, (3), Livingstone (3)

Responsibilities

  • Introducing the study and providing information to study participants
  • Obtaining informed consent.
  • Screening and enrollment of study Participants
  • Administering of questionnaire to eligible participants
  • Ensure clients confidentiality is maintained
  • Filling and completing study documents
  • Daily handing of specimens and other study documents
  • Following up study participants
  • Referral of study participants to Local Clinic for further sample collection
  • Performing other duties as required by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a grade twelve (12) and at least 21 years and above
  • Knowledge about research is needed
  • Computer literate
  • Must be a resident of the local area and be familiar with the community
  • Be trained and licensed in Psycho-social Counselling with a minimum 2 years working as a counsellor
  • Be able to speak, read and write English and be conversant with local languages
  • Must be willing to walk and cover long distances
  • Must be able to maintain client confidentiality
  • Previous experience as a home-based career, treatment support worker or community health worker is beneficial

The appointment is on a Two (2) year contract.
