Purpose

To provide guidance, support and advice to line management on industrial relation incidents through a fair application of workplace policies and labour legislation
experience and qualifications

Experience and qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or appropriate 3 years qualification in HR/Labour Law/Industrial Relations
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a similar environment of which 1 to 2 years ideally on junior specialist level
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation i.e Labour Relations Act, Basic conditions of Employment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Employment Equity Act, the Labour Law, IRmatters i.e. Disciplinary procedures, CCMA, Arbitrations, OHSA/ COIDA, Employee Wellness Programs (EAP), Trauma counselling

Additional requirements

  • Should be a registered member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management with a valid practicing certificate.
  • Provision of an efficient administration service through careful and timeous planning, reporting and updating of all related information
  • Support the business unit through the provision of relevant materials, documentations, minimum standards, templates, guidelines, FAQ’s and processes
  • Deliver exceptional service that exceeds customers’ expectations through proactive, innovative and appropriate solutions

Responsibilities

  • Manage costs / expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies
  • Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including end-users and senior staff members by providing input to business requirements
  • Deliver exceptional service that exceeds customers’ expectations through proactive, innovative, and appropriate solutions
  • Resolve all customer queries efficiently, and within agreed timelines as per service standards
  • Comply with governance in terms of legislative and audit requirements
  • Provision of accurate advice to management on the latest legislative amendments that could impact on the business
  • Investigate problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions and employee appeals and grievances and provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolutions
  • Ensure labour disputes and grievances are minimized by developing and maintaining effective and pro-active procedures
  • Implementation of strategies that position governance, policies, and procedures to efficiently manage employee issues and policies on disciplinary, grievance and in capacity processes
  • Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent and culture of team in order to improve innovation and achieve efficiencies
  • Manage development to increase competencies of self and team
