JOB PURPOSE

 

This function is responsible for tracking and reporting on day-to-day customer performance of individual credit facilities and loan portfolio to ensure early warning signs are identified, investigated and action is promptly taken to address situations where credit risks have, or could, move outside risk appetite or there is potential to deteriorate further.

 

Under the supervision of the Credit Monitoring Senior Specialist, the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities:

 

Credit Monitoring

 

  • Identify Warning signs as per assigned credit portfolio and report accordingly
  • Tracks and monitors post approval covenants and ensures any breaches are highlighted and escalated accordingly
  • Responsible for periodic testing of the set covenants and timely reporting of the results with escalations
  • Check the loan accounts for correct implementation of approved interest rates are correctly implemented in the system
  • Perform checks to ensure annual review dates are documented, followed and applicable fees recovered/charged through robust tracking of all Annual & Interim Reviews 3 months before expiry and timely escalation of late submissions
  • Conduct checks to ensure that approved facility terms in the offer letter are aligned with those in the bank’s core system
  • Engage relationship Managers for resolution of outstanding issues on their portfolios with regard to covenants, arrears, excesses etc
  • Work closely with the  Credit team and Relationship Managers to obtain required information and ensure compliance with approved facility terms
  • Periodically accompanying the RMs to client visits and/other meetings to address credit risk matters
  • Ensure that  excess limits and waiver approvals are returned to order through daily excess monitoring and tracking with timely escalations to business unit Heads
  • Responsible for ensuring post disbursement compliance with approved terms and conditions by conducting call overs on all disbursed Corporate facilities
  • Responsible for monthly updating of Monitoring and Control Sheets
  • Monthly tracking of the Cash flows on the Agric Portfolio and highlighting any red flags
  • Providing credit monitoring reports that identify non- performing accounts with irregularities through proactively following-up  with RMs to ensure corrective action is taken in line with the credit policy.
  • Ensuring all related processing & facility fees/commissions have been levied on all disbursed facilities and the appropriate interest rates applied.
  • Ensuring any changes to the Bank of Zambia Monetary Policy rates/ USD Base rate are undertaken in line with the set procedures and guidelines
  • Ensuring that all credit files have been well segregated into their various compartments and filed alpha numerically
  • Daily tracking of accounts in arrears with follow ups to RMs and  escalations to business heads
  • Robust and effective use of the Credit monitoring diary system
  • Robust and effective use of the Credit monitoring System

 

Early Warning (EW) Process:

 

  • Identify and report the EW indicators for various customers in the assigned portfolio and suggest appropriate remedial action
  • Act as Secretariat and prepare the minutes for the Watchlist meetings and Portfolio Quality Review Meetings with effective follow up and closure of actions
  • Conduct specific assessments related to EW indicators and financial covenants and recommend appropriate action including staging of the customers to the watch list category.
  • Maintenance of the data base related to covenant monitoring and trigger monitoring requirements for various customers in the portfolio and provide reports to the Management Committee

 

Other

 

  • Ensure adherence and compliance with all regulatory and internal policies.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of existing systems and processes
  • Actively participate in credit projects and initiatives as appropriate
  • Periodic testing  of the Risk Control Self Assessments
  • Timely identification and remediation of any control gaps in Credit monitoring
  • Ability to interact with auditors (internal /external) and provide the requested information
  • Timely preparation and completion of daily and monthly returns and reports
  • Any other responsibilities or tasks as maybe assigned by management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 Certificate with Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Business, Accounting or any other related qualifications
  • Credit Risk certifications will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience of credit administration & monitoring
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of credit in general
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s credit policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Central Bank’s regulatory requirements on lending and reporting
  • Knowledge of credit administration, loan documentation and credit monitoringJOB CORE COMPETENCIES
