The Centre for Academic Development is a strategic unit of the University that promotes academic development, quality assurance and research for improvement in the standards and quality of course design, teaching, learning, and assessment including the mainstreaming of latest education media and technologies. It also supports Schools and Units with accreditation of programmes and registration of learning achievements with relevant authorities.

The Centre is seeking for the services of three (3) Coordinators whose roles entail coordinating, training, conducting research activities and preparing documentation in the Centre. The Coordinators will be expected to execute key responsibilities and accountabilities in CAD on fulltime basis. They will be expected to ensure that Centre activities and practices are researched and effectively implemented.

1. Job Title: Coordinator – Teaching And Learning

Job Purpose: To provide services pertinent to the improvement of quality curriculum, teaching and learning for academic staff at CBU and beyond.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To contribute action plans and implement the CAD operational plans.
  • To coordinate needs assessments, audit and profile staff pedagogical skills and coordinate professional development workshops.
  • To coordinate and organize staff academic development in teaching, learning and assessment methodologies.
  • To support staff and students to understand academic regulations.
  • To initiate, conduct  and publish research in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and disseminate results in collaboration with other Coordinators.
  • To provide support to Units in the design, implementation, evaluation, and review of academic programmes.
  • To collaborate with other CAD coordinators to collate relevant institutional data to inform institutional policies.
  • To participate in academic development activities, webinars and conferences to enhance own professionalism.
  • To contribute to planning and implementation of short courses to generate income.
  • To prepare quarterly and annual operational plan reports.
2. Job Title: Coordinator – Educational Media And Technology

Job Purpose: To strengthen capacity of staff to integrate educational media and technologies in teaching, research and course management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To contribute action plans to introduce instructional technologies and implement the CAD operational plans.
  • To coordinate needs assessments and monitor trends in educational media and technologies in teaching, learning and administration, and management in higher education.
  • To coordinate and organise staff academic development in the use of educational media and technologies in teaching, learning and assessment methodologies.
  • To initiate, conduct and publish research to promote integration of appropriate educational media and technologies, and disseminate results in collaboration with other Coordinators.
  • To provide support to Units in design, implementation, evaluation, and review of academic programmes.
  • To collaborate with other CAD coordinators to collate relevant institutional data to inform institutional policies.
  • To participate in academic development activities, webinars and conferences to enhance own professionalism.
  • To contribute to planning and implementation of short courses in instructional technologies.
  • To prepare quarterly and annual operation plan performance reports.
  • To initiate business and education partnerships for enhancing the use of educational media and technologies in instruction.
  • To contribute to the CAD research group to promote the use of technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment, and management of learning.
3. Job Title: Coordinator – Quality Assurance

Job Purpose: To orient staff in the University to appreciate and strive for national, regional and international quality standards, benchmarks, and accreditation standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To contribute to preparation of quality control and assurance work plans and implement the CAD operational plans and their monitoring, evaluation and review.
  • To coordinate and organise staff orientation and training activities on quality assurance, benchmarking accreditation requirements.
  • To identify and recommend communication and training programs to help the University staff understand their roles in quality control and quality assurance.
  • To take lead in the use of institutional data to inform institutional policies and decision making.
  • To support staff and students to understand academic regulations.
  • To engage and contribute to the CAD research group to advance quality assurance and excellence in teaching, learning, assessment and course design.
  • To provide support to Units in the design, implementation, evaluation, and review of academic programmes to meet accreditation standards and benchmarks.
  • To participate in academic development activities, webinars and conferences to enhance own professionalism.
  • To contribute to planning and implementation of short courses on quality assurance and control.
  • To prepare quarterly and annual operational plan performance reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or Form V School Certificate with five (5) “O” levels with credit or better including English and Mathematics.
  • A Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in a relevant field. A PhD in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years post qualification experience in teaching and research in a higher educational institution.
  • Demonstrate experience in planning, coordination and/or facilitation of workshops and review.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and video conference tools.
  • Ability to use statistical packages like SPSS or other is an added advantage.
