CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – NG1

Reporting line: The Board Chairperson

Location : Lusaka

Job Purpose:

To provide overall strategic business direction and policy, overseeing operations of NATSAVE on behalf of the shareholders and other stakeholders in order to successfully realise the Bank’s mission, objectives and goals effectively and efficiently.

Key responsibilities:

  • Directs the development and implementation of strategic business plans, policies and operating guidelines designed to sustain and achieve growth within realistic time frames, providing the mission and objectives required to steer the Bank to success.
  • Ensures a consolidated budget is developed for the entire Bank network that is aimed at providing financial and material resources required to achieve the NATSAVE’s plans whilst meeting the Bank’s obligations in the most cost-effective manner for Board approval.
  • Monitors the application and expenditure of the Banks financial resources with the aid of the Chief Financial Officer to ensure that resources are allocated to where they are needed and most beneficial to the interests of the Bank, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Directs and leads in developing overall strategic direction and measures to grow the business by stimulating product development, investment initiatives, liaising with relevant stakeholders and institutions to introduce new products, establishing strategic partnerships to ensure sustainability and growth of the Bank’s business.
  • Reviews and evaluates performance of the Bank, monitoring implementation of the business plans against agreed benchmarks quarterly, half-yearly and annually, taking corrective action to ensure departmental targets are achieved and plans realised efficiently and effectively.
  • Institutes, through the Chief Financial Officer, Head -Internal Audit and Chief Risk Officer, controls,checks, systems and procedures as well as policies that contribute to the effective and efficient management of operations and financial affairs at minimum risk but at optimum benefit to the Bank.
  • Directs and maintains, through the Director-Human Capital and Administration, sound human resource policies, systems and procedures, ensuring adequate supply, maintenance and motivation of suitably qualified staff in all areas of the Bank’s operations while fostering a healthy industrial relations climate.
  • Ensures through the Chief Operations Officer and other user departments that the Bank has a robust, reliable, modern ICT technology, infrastructure and systems for all areas that can make the Bank very competitive and a Bank of choice by a targeted market niche.
  • Develops a conducive corporate culture to establish good work ethics, performance standards, operating principles, and good governance in the Bank to foster a good reputation in the Financial Sector.
  • Reports and provides pertinent advice to the Board of Directors on the performance and well-being of the Bank so that appropriate courses of action can be chartered to steer NATSAVE to success and beyond.
  • Projects a positive image of the Bank to local and international business communities through positive branding and promotion of the Bank as its Chief spokesperson and marketer.
  • Provides pertinent advice and solution to subordinates’ technical and administrative problems to ensure smooth operations and good employee relations.
  • Ensures that all statutory and regulatory reports are prepared and submitted in time and that the Bank complies with all legislative and BOZ requirements.
  • Leads major negotiations with strategic business partners and customers locally and internationally to obtain the most favourable conditions that maximise the Bank’s returns.
  • Cultivates and nurtures good relations with GRZ, BOZ, international bodies and institutions to foster cooperation and goodwill necessary for the success of NATSAVE.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Full Grade 12 certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Economics, Banking or related discipline
  • Professional qualification/certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience in the financial or banking sector, seven (07) years at executive management level with diverse experience in all areas of the Bank’s operations to be effective.
  • Experience at Chief Executive Officer level in the financial or banking sector is an added advantage.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Proven knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory framework and risk management in the banking and financial sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and drive organizational success.
  • Proactive stakeholder management capability.
  • The role holder will be expected to have an expert’s knowledge of the products of NATSAVE, the market and regulatory environment in which NATSAVE operates.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, embodying our core values of accountability, trustworthiness, and stewardship.
  • Innovative change management skills.
