Job Purpose
To ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, mine safety standards and company SHE policies by promoting a safe working environment, preventing accidents and supporting continuous improvement in safety performance across our operational sites.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Compliance & Monitoring
-
Enforce compliance with the Mines and Minerals Development Act, Employment Code Act, and relevant Zambian mine safety regulations.

Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits across mine operations.

Identify hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Incident Management
-
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and prepare detailed investigation reports.

Recommend corrective and preventive measures to reduce recurrence.

Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and corrective actions.
Training & Awareness
-
Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher safety training for employees and contractors.

Promote safety awareness campaigns and encourage safe work practices.
-
Mentor workers on safe operating procedures (SOPs) and hazard identification.
-
Participate in safety meetings and other collaborative safety initiatives on site.
Operational Safety Support
-
Support supervisors and contractors in implementing job safety analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.

Monitor high-risk activities including blasting, confined space entry, working at heights, lifting operations, and mobile equipment operations.

Ensure correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Reporting & Documentation

Compile and submit safety performance reports, statistics, and compliance documentation.

Maintain safety registers, permits, and inspection checklists.

Assist in SHE audits and inspections by internal and external stakeholders.
Emergency Preparedness
-
Participate in emergency response planning and drills.

Support implementation of emergency procedures and evacuation plans.

Strong knowledge of mining safety legislation and standards

Attention to detail and strong observation skills

Ability to work in high-risk mining environments

Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, reporting systems)
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
-
Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Mining, or related field
-
Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in mining or heavy industry safety role
-
Registered with Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or relevant professional body (added)
