Job Title: Consultant General Surgeon

Department: Clinical Care and Diagnostic Services
Job Purpose
To coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of the provision of general surgery services in order to provide timely intervention and effective management for general surgical patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Commanding Officer – Clinical Care – Services and shall be responsible for;
(i) Coordinating effectively the development and implementation of guidelines and standard protocols in order to ensure standardized delivery of general Surgery services
(ii) Coordinating effectively the provision of general surgery services in order to improve health outcomes for all the patients.
(iii) Coordinating effectively performance assessment and assurance improvement for surgery in order to ensure adherence to set standards and improve service delivery.
(iv) Coordinating effectively the provision of technical support and mentorship to all levels of care in order to improve the implementation of general surgery.
(v) Coordinating effectively the development and implementation of general surgery services capacity building programmes in order to impart appropriate skills and knowledge in practitioners.
(vi) Managing timely development of individual and unit work plans in order to monitor and evaluate performance.
(vii) Coordinating research in general surgery services in order to generate evidence for decision making
(viii) Coordinating periodically monitoring and evaluation of the provision of general surgery services in order to facilitate implementation of appropriate interventions
Qualifications
a) A Full Grade Twelve (12)/Form 5 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Level Credits or its equivalent.
b) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent Mmed in Orthopaedics and Trauma or equivalent Fellowship in Spine/trauma added advantage Specialist Registration with HPCZ
c) 12 years working experience, with 6 years at management level.
