The Coordinator – Risk & Compliance will play a vital role in providing expert advice and guidance to management on environmental policy programmes to achieve levels of environmental protection consistent with national and international standards and, at a minimum, meet national legislative requirements. The job holder will report to the HSES & Community Liaison Officer.
Key Accountabilities
- Determining the company’s business and operational risk profile and ensuring that risks are effectively managed.
- Determining the HSES risks of the company and ensuring that the risks are effectively managed.
- Providing HSES advice when conducting due diligence for new acquisitions and investments.
- Undertake a fraud risk assessment to identify the company’s material fraud risks.
- Completed risk assessments for non-routine work.
- Ensure risk mitigation measures are addressed by respective risk owners and issue closure status reports monthly.
- Provide technical support in emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Review the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan and facilitate review of the departmental ERPs.
- Facilitate delivery of emergency preparedness and response drills twice in a year and ensure lessons learned are shared, and emergency procedures are updated as may be required.
- Ensure that the performance of the Quality Management System (QMS) remains effective and in compliance with international standards, specifically ISO 9001:2015.
- Aimed at abating the resultant environmental impact/effect.
- Conduct internal audits to verify conformance to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, issue reports and follow up on closure of identified non-conformities.
- Address audit recommendations from IMS External audits as assigned to you.
- Report on the effectiveness of the risk management system for onward submission to the risk management committee of the board.
- Produce and submit an annual risk statement.
- Compile and submit risk reports.
- Conduct risk management training to employees and contractors.
- Produce an awareness article on risk management.
- Ensure the RIMS is up to date and upload the Risk and Opportunity registers continuously.
To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:
- Degree in Environmental Engineering/Degree in Environmental Science/Degree in Natural Resources.
- Qualification in Environmental Management System ISO 14001.
- Member of the Environmental Institute of Zambia.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Environmental Management in an environmental and social role and in a context of similar complexity.
- In-depth understanding of Environmental Management systems and proven technical skills and knowledge in Environmental Social Impact Assessment Studies.
- Good writing and interpersonal skills.
- Good public relations skills.
- Good presentation skills using constructive and logical approaches.
- Sound business acumen with ability to anticipate and interpret changes impacting on environment and social programs and approaches.
- Good understanding of the IFC Performance Standards and the relevant ILO standards.
