Zambart

Zambart is an independent Zambian research organization whose headquarters is at the University of Zambia’s Ridgeway Campus in Lusaka. Zambart is globally renowned for its interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis and has contributed to HIV and TB policy and practice at national and global levels. Zambart’s research portfolio now includes a broader scope of urgent public health issues. Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication and counselling.

Zambart’ s vision is to conduct quality interdisciplinary health research on issues of public health importance Zambia and contribute to improving health policy and practice leading to better health for all.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for an ambitious, suitably qualified candidate to fill the following exciting position that has arisen:

Position: Accounts Clerk (01)

Reporting To: Finance Manager

Job Location: Lusaka

Position Summary

The Accounts Clerk will provide clerical assistance to the finance department in the management of all financial accounting activities of Zambart.

Roles and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Receiving invoices and matching the invoices to the purchase orders ensuring that these are correct and accurate.
  • Processing payments in accordance with Zambart payment procedures and ensuring that all payments are properly authorized and documented.
  • Ensure that all files with corresponding accounting documentation are complete, well maintained, and accessible.
  • Ensure that payments for Zambart Head Office utilities such as telephone, water, internet and electricity bills are processed and paid timeously.
  • Ensure that the office petty cash is maintained in accordance with Zambart petty cash management guidelines.
  • Perform Bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
  • Manage all staff travel advances and ensuring that the advances are retired in a timely manner and in according to Zambart procedures for staff advances.
  • Update the daily bank reconciliation spreadsheet for the Finance Manager’s review.
  • Ensure all statutory deductions (PAYE/NAPSA/Personal levy and Workman’s compensation) are timely remitted to respective agencies.
  • Ensure all cash receipts are receipted and promptly banked in accordance with Zambart procedures as a cashier.
  • Complete monthly overhead recharge schedules for approval by the Finance Manager
  • Any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by line manager
Education and Professional Requirements

Essential

  • A part qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA or equivalent) or fully certified accounting technician qualification.
  • Full grade twelve certificate with at least merit in mathematics and English
  • Work experience in accounting department of a busy organization
    Honest, organized and able to work under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office experience especially excel spreadsheet
  • Able to deliver with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable

  • Good knowledge of Donor/NGO accounting issues
  • Neat and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn
  • Team player
