Zambart is an independent Zambian research organization whose headquarters is at the University of Zambia’s Ridgeway Campus in Lusaka. Zambart is globally renowned for its interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis and has contributed to HIV and TB policy and practice at national and global levels. Zambart’s research portfolio now includes a broader scope of urgent public health issues. Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication and counselling.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for an ambitious, suitably qualified candidate to fill the following exciting position that has arisen:
Position: Data Scientist/Health Informatics Specialist
Duty Station: Zambart House, Lusaka.
Job Purpose:
The Research Data and Statistics Department is seeking an experienced and motivated Data Scientist/Health Informatics Specialist to strengthen, lead and be part of Zambart Research Data and Statistics Department. The Data Scientist will contribute to all stages of the life cycle of research projects at Zambart.
The Key roles and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- The Data Scientist will contribute to the writing of research proposals
- They will analyse the data collected
- They will be key to the publication and dissemination of research findings
- They will ensure that research data is shared with collaborators.
- The Data Scientist will also support the larger quantitative research studies with a focus
i) on development of data collection tools,
ii) monitoring and evaluation of study progress,
iii) communication of findings to the study teams,
iv) cleaning and compiling of research data sets and
v) statistical analysis of data.
Essential Requirements
– Age ~30-40
– Academic background (minimally MSc) in computer science, data science, health-informatics, biostatistics.
– Proven 3-5 years’ experience in the field of data management, relational database design and deployment, development of data collection tools, monitoring and evaluation, data management.
– Proven ability to critically interrogate the quality of data
– Proficiency in any one or more of the following software packages categories:
(a) MS SQL Server, MySQL, Transact SQL,
(b) Stata, R, Python, Microsoft .Net framework
(c) And Power-BI will be an added advantage
Desirable:
– Worked in a (public health) research setting
– Experience with health systems data, patient records
– Knowledge of (standard) statistical analysis methods in bio-medical science
– Contributions to publication in scientific journals
– Geographical Information System
