Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:
To assist the Dewatering Section with Auto Electrical repairs, maintenance, statutory checks, compliance and inspections of dewatering infrastructure, workshop machinery, lighting plants and generators.

 

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all Auto Electrical maintenance, repairs and inspections are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, to assure maximum reliability and uptime.
  • Meeting set work targets for daily work group activities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Planning & assisting in laying out of work on new projects.
  • Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools, meters, and specialized equipment to identify electrical and electronic issues in pumping & lighting plant systems. Analyse wiring diagrams and schematics to trace and pinpoint faults.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Perform repairs and maintenance on infrastructure’s electrical systems, including wiring, lighting (interior and exterior), starters, alternators, batteries, ignition systems, electronic control modules, and sensors.
  • Installation and Upgrades: Install new electrical components or upgrade existing systems to meet equipment requirements or industry standards. This may include adding accessories like alarms, GPS systems, telemetry, etc.
  • Testing and Calibration: Test and calibrate electronic components and systems, ensuring they meet manufacturer specifications and function optimally.
  • Soldering and Wiring: Solder and connect wires, cables, and connectors to ensure secure and reliable electrical connections.
  • Data Analysis: Liaison with manufacturers to interpret data from diagnostic tools and computerized systems to diagnose complex electrical problems and malfunctions.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, engine hours, parts used, and diagnostic results for quality control and documentation purposes.
  • Ensuring maximum plant availability at all times.

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Proven experience with Auto Electrical breakdown repairs as well as preventative maintenance, with a focus on heavy diesel equipment and lighting plants
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills and perseverance, under duress..
  • Strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters and other specialized equipment.
  • Familiarity with electronic control modules, sensors, and computerized engine management systems.
  • Good communication skills to interact with support departments and other team members.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in challenging positions, including bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Maintain a high work-standard in a high-pressure environment.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • High regard and commitment to safe work practices.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a large mining operation or similar environment.
  • Full Grade 12 certificate.
  • Craft Certificate in Auto Electrical.
  • Valid Zambian driver’s license essential.
  • Must be / eligible for membership of EIZ and registration with ERB.
