Job Description

Purpose

To safely execute instrument maintenance and installation work according to prescribed standards and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Operational

  • Adhere to all pertinent requirements, policies, procedures, and legal requirements pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as any other regulations as necessary by the company and relevant to the role and responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the instrumentation team, ensuring the FQM way and safety awareness message are well understood, accepted, and practiced.
  • Install new instrument systems and replace old, faulty, or redundant instrument systems as per the company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.
  • Ensure and document that all instrument drawings are up-to-date.
  • Adhere to the company’s planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Effectively maintain the instrument equipment with minimal effect on plant production.
  • Compile detailed reports on all activities, plans, costs, and labour.
  • Report all incidents immediately to the superintendent.
  • Ensure that stock levels of instrument equipment are maintained in the warehouse.
  • Create new stock for all critical items to ensure minimal effect on production in the event of a failure.
  • Oversee the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within the section.
  • Record and control all tool replacements.
  • Maintain the highest safety standards for the condition and usage of all instrument test equipment.
  • Provide and schedule all necessary training for employees to comply with all safety standards and statutory requirements.
  • Identify the need for specialised training requirements within the area.
  • Perform any other duties as directed by the instrumentation superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Instrumentation or similar in Industrial software systems.
  • Siemens PCS7 certification.
  • Valid LV driver’s licence.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a mining plant environment working as a software engineer.
  • Excellent knowledge of Profibus DP & PA, as well as Profinet field devices, network configuration, installation, maintenance, and fault-finding.
  • Siemens PLC (S7-400H and others), Simocode motor protection relays, variable speed drive controls (ABB & Danfoss), & related communications protocols.
  • Siemens Scalance switch architecture and/or other industrial network systems.
  • VMware and cloud computing.
  • IIoT, Data Management, and Analysis.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, preferably Citect SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of DCS systems, with excellent knowledge and certification in Siemens PCS7 systems.
  • Knowledge of expert control systems will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of OPC DA/UA systems will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of CCTV systems will be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge on the use of measuring instruments.
  • Reading of P&ID as well as electrical drawings.
  • Computer literate.
  • Any leadership or supervisory training courses.
