Job Description

Purpose

Liaise with the instrumentation coordinator to provide a full range of control & instrumentation services to the production and management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Operational

  • Adhere to all pertinent requirements, policies, procedures, and legal requirements pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as any other regulations as necessary by the company and relevant to the role and responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership to the instrumentation team, ensuring the FQM way and safety awareness message are well understood, accepted, and practiced.
  • Provide instrumentation & field network support to the instrumentation team & operations group.
  • Conduct fault-finding & failure analysis of all instrumentation & field network devices installed.
  • Support the continuous improvement processes & have custodianship of the instrument change management process & configuration data archives.
  • Manage the time of Instrument Team members efficiently to ensure all scheduled tasks are performed and KPI targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop & implement PM tasks with input from other team members, operations personnel, the senior supervisor, and the instrumentation superintendent.
  • Liaise with operations personnel at all levels to improve and maintain instrument accuracy & effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support to the operations and maintenance teams and actively participate in RCA investigations & failure analysis.

Technical

  • Good computer hardware and software skills (Windows & Office suites).
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Fluent in English.

Qualifications

  • Instrumentation or trade qualifications in a relevant field with significant practical field experience.
  • Profibus certification or significant field experience.

Experience

  • Experience in instrumentation management & maintenance roles.
  • Profibus field device, network configuration, & maintenance.
  • Siemens or similar PLCs, Simocode motor protection relays, variable speed drive controls, & communications.
  • Five years of experience in a chemical or mineral processing plant.
  • Previous experience and control of crushing and conveyor systems will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in milling operations and control systems will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience with flotation circuits is essential.
  • Previous experience in thickening processes is recommended.
  • Exceptional skills in field instrumentation, maintenance, fault-finding, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of DCS systems, preferably PCS7 systems, will be an advantage.

Operational Requirements

  • Standby, shift work, and overtime are required.
  • Prepared to self-train & pass on any new found knowledge.
  • Work with suppliers & OEMs to ensure a win-win situation that provides the Kansanshi team with appropriate ongoing support.
  • Identify suitable candidates & actively train others in their own role for absences in the workplace.
  • Exposure to noise/dust.
