Key Responsibilities

  • Budget Formulation:
    • Develop and manage operational budgets for the cropping department, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial guidelines.
    • Monitor expenses, analyze variances, and implement cost-effective strategies to achieve financial targets.
  • Equipment Management:
    • Supervise and maintain all equipment used in cropping operations, ensuring functionality, safety, and optimal performance.
    • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule regular inspections, repairs, and upgrades as needed.
  • Input Procurement:
    • Oversee the procurement process for all necessary inputs required for cropping operations, ensuring timely acquisition and quality standards adherence.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and negotiate favourable terms and pricing for inputs.
  • Collaboration and Optimization:
    • Work closely with consulting agronomists and industry experts to implement best practices, enhance efficiency, and maximize productivity within the cropping division.
    • Collaborate with cropping teams across various properties to synchronize efforts and maximize overall productivity.
  • Irrigation Infrastructure Management:
    • Manage and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring proper functioning and efficiency to support crop growth and yield.
    • Implement improvements and upgrades to optimize water usage and minimize resource wastage.
  • Reporting:
    • Prepare and deliver comprehensive weekly reports on cropping operations, outlining progress, challenges, key achievements, and future plans to the directors.
    • Provide insights, analysis, and recommendations for improvements based on gathered data and observations.

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience (X years) in agricultural management, specifically in crop production and operations.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop and manage budgets effectively.
  • Proficiency in equipment management and understanding of agricultural machinery.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and practices.
  • Experience with livestock management is advantageous
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
  • Strong leadership abilities to motivate and manage teams effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure.
